Very simple to use. Even I can work it !! And I knew nothing about chip copying when I got it. Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: stayouttadabunker on March 11, 2011, 02:19:15 AM Exactly what type/size devices does your Williams use Mike?
It will be written under the label onto the top of the eprom body. The GQ-4X is good for the S2000 but I'm not sure about WMS 400 chips. This is why I ask. Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: reho33 on March 11, 2011, 03:11:54 AM Why do they call it a "Wilhelm" Programmer?
Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: stayouttadabunker on March 11, 2011, 03:37:49 AM I'm going to take an un-educated guess...lol
A guy named Will was at the helm when they designed the programmer? :5- Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: Foster on March 11, 2011, 07:40:58 AM It is German for William.
Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: Magicslots on March 11, 2011, 11:51:08 AM Will the GQ-4X burn back-up chips for game king, I+games? I know it wont do simms, or is there an adapter for that too? :103-
Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: stayouttadabunker on March 11, 2011, 01:00:00 PM Will the GQ-4X burn back-up chips for game king, I+games? I know it wont do simms, or is there an adapter for that too? :103- Again, It depends on what type/size chips you're using. The MCUMall website has a complete list of what the GQ-4X programmer is capable of using and what adapter is needed...>>> http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/mcumall_TrueUSBWillemsupportICs.asp (http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/mcumall_TrueUSBWillemsupportICs.asp) Simms are more like memory sticks/cards sort of like the ones that go into slot on a desktop computer. They are in no way shape or form similar to eproms other than the fact that they store data. :60- It would be very surprising if you could find any burner that can do both devices using the same programmer/reader unit. As for a Simms burner , Eric Forrhouse can help you with that... :71- Below are the physical differences between a Simm sound card and an eprom chip...>>> Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: golflover on March 11, 2011, 01:11:18 PM Base on the suggestions of Stat, Buzz and Bunkler I got the GQ-4x and have been using it with no problems at all. Very easy to install and use. :89-

Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: StatFreak on March 12, 2011, 03:35:40 PM For most of us who only burn or read the occasional chip, the GQ-4X is fast enough. If you have lots of machines and are constantly working with chips, it might become an issue.
Both Bunker and I experience write speeds of about 1Mbit per minute with the GQ-4X, so an 8Mb chip (a 1 MByte file) takes about eight minutes to burn. (Reads are much faster.) Since most of the chips I burn are 1Mb or 2Mb, it only takes me 1-2 minutes to burn the majority of the chips I work with. By contrast, Buzz's BX40 burns an 8Mb chip in about Of course, the BX40 costs three times as much as the GQ-4X. Don't forget, Einstein proved that ts = ms-2 where ts = Time Spent, and ms= Money Spent. lolol. :72- :72- :72- Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: Buzz on March 12, 2011, 03:52:46 PM I wasn't talking about the speed of the chip, the speed of the burner is my concern.
Capt. Happy. Bunker, and Stat have all told me their GQ-4X takes 8 minutes to burn a 8 meg chip. My Batronix takes 80 seconds to burn a 8 meg. If your burning one or two chips that's no big deal is it, but as I sit here I'm thinking I have 30 S2000 I need to remove the SG000155 and replace them with SB000363 so the machines will have multi denom. You do the math 60 X 8 minutes = 8 hours or 60 X 80 seconds = 80 minutes ( that's a savings of 6 1/2 hours that I can use typing on this damn computer ) Your GQ-4X needs adaptors for 40 pin chips, I don't. Batronix has Chip Auto Identify, GQ-4X doesn't ( I don't have to peel back a label and try to read those small numbers to see what size chip I have, one click of a button and the burner tells me what I have) David you got in ahead of me. Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: reho33 on March 12, 2011, 04:52:13 PM But it costs way more than the GQ-4X right? I have seen some burners go for 1000 dollars or more, is it just a speed issue??
Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: Buzz on March 12, 2011, 05:02:27 PM No it's not just speed, the Auto Identify is the one thing that sold me on the BX 40. and it is made in Germany, not Japan or China. Cost $280 + shipping. This is the truth, I have never ever had to look at my manual for my burner. And that's what I needed, a NO brainier burner!
Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: brichter on March 12, 2011, 05:08:21 PM The Thousand $ plus burners usually do gangs of 4, 8, or 16 at a time, so, while good for a production environment, they are overkill and way to costly for the home user.
Expect to pay $250-500 for a good single socket USB like the Batronix or my favorite, the ChipMax 2. I chose the ChipMax 2 because the company's North American presence is less than 4 miles from where I work. I did have an issue with mine about 6 months after I purchased it, I took it to their office and had a replacement in in my hand in about 20 minutes. Title: Re: Which burner and chips to buy? Post by: a69mopar on March 12, 2011, 08:00:10 PM My Chipmax 2 is awesome. I also have an easypro 90B which works very goo for chips up to 40 pins but isn't as fast as the chipmax. I believe it cost me $100 from ebay new.
