Hi all -

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a wms 40x Big Bang Piggy machine.   I heard that these machines are prone to overheating and a couple of other problems. I really like the game and this type machine and I'm planning on keeping it for a long time.   My first question is what can I do to preserve the belly glass.  It looks really good - however toward the bottom I notice a small bubble/crack in the graphic.  Does anyone have any idea what I can do to prevent and stop any pealing that may occur?  I was trolling around is topic but didn't find anything.

Some of the pinball threads have ideas on this as the Pinball backglass is more prone to peeling and the backglass for xx pinball is more rare than slots.
Slots are designed to have their kits swapped out while Pinball machines usually stay whatever theme they started out as.

One low-tech solution is to simply use a small piece of electrical tape and put it all the way around the edges. If you cut it narrow enough you wont see it as its held in the frame.

I remember reading someplace (not on NLG) that pinball glass starts to peel on the edges due to age + constant rubbing as the pinball machne is shaken during play. This friction starts the peeling. This was speculation because if it was solely heat you would expect the bubbles to show up directly infront of lights but it rarely does.

On slots - I would extrapolate this to the changing of the game lkits.

Once again this is far far away from my area of expertise so I will let one of the pin ball types jump in here with some better recommendations.

I know that CFH has a good spray on solution for that...I forget what...hopefully he will chirp in or you might try sending him a PM.

Yeah that's spray would be exactly what I'm looking for.   Has anyone ever done something like that to keep the dotmation glass like new? or is the glass easy enough to come by and it's not worth going out of my way to protect it?


I think I'm going to add some quiet fans inside too.   Heat is the enemy.   

Dotmation glass is not easy to come by and is generally not cheap, so do what you can to preserve what you have.  Here's the thread that Jim mentioned about cfh's spray solution (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2747.0).

I added fans to my top box.  If you still have the factory Dotmation power supply in there, I'd urge you to add a fan to the side of your Dotmation box, and to turn the display off when the machine is not in use (turn the jackpot reset key once) if you normally leave your machine on.

Very useful thread! (The Fan thread that is... I read it over the weekend)  Is there another for converting to an atx power supply?

Has anyone tried the Krylon Triple Thick?  I would love to see some photos of the results.

Thanks, and yes, here's the ATX conversion method that I did (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=90.0).  CFH has also done some power supply conversions including replacing both the bottom and upper power supplies with one ATX box.  His threads can be found near the bottom of the WMS Reel category.

I can't believe I didn't see that in the wms forum.  I even went back and looked over all the topics and couldn't find it.  Oh well I must be sleepy.  Thanks for the tip about turning off the dmd.   Is there any quick way of turning it back on or just flick the key 14 times?

Just quickly tap the max bet button until you're out of the menus. (about 11 times)

I've used it on my pinball glass. You cant tell the difference....It cant fix the bubble effect that started,but hopefully it will stop any more :)

After getting really frustrated today with my Bally 6000 I decided to go out and do something useful... I took the belly glass off my pig machine gave it a good cleaning and then sprayed on a thick coat of Rust-Oleum's clear 2X ultra cover.   Seemed to work well.. I let you know in 30 years how it holds up!
