Title: Data East Games
Post by: channelmaniac on September 16, 2008, 12:23:19 AM
Fixed: Captain America:
Symptom: Dead, missing parts.

Replaced 2 missing proms with ones pulled from parts Capt America board. Moved over 7 EPROMs from the parts board and burned an EPROM to replace the missing 8th. Fixed a short on the bottom of the board. CPU would not come up. Checked the reset line - it was being held high and never cycled from low to high to have the CPU boot normally. Traced it back and replaced a broken capacitor to fix the board.

Replaced 6 missing EPROMs, installed 2 20-pin sockets and 2 74als245 ICs. Still dead. Found and replaced a bad 20 pin socket on the ROM board. Board now booted but had corrupt background and foreground graphics. Did a physical inspection of the board and found bent pins on one of the graphics processors. Fixed the bent pins on graphics processor IC to fix the background graphics. Found and fixed three burnt traces under the 74LS157 ICs to fix the character/foreground graphics and finish the game.

Fixed: Mutant Fighter
Symptom: Dead

A physical inspection turned up a hit on the bottom board that has pushed the solder on 2 plate throughs together to where they shorted. Dabbed a bit of rosin flux on the lump and used the soldering iron to unbridge them. Game booted but had no audio. Replaced the broken volume control pot (one leg had come loose from the pot) to finish the repair.

Model: Captain America
Symptom: Dead. Missing parts.

Board was a parts board being resurrected. Replaced 3 missing PALs and 8 missing EPROMs with ones from another parts board. Board still dead. Replaced a missing 5 pin 1k resistor network and resoldered a partially removed one. Board would then boot but had graphic corruption between player/enemy and backgrounds. It also played incorrect sounds.

Fixed bent/shorted pins between the character ROMs and the background ROMs to fix the graphic issue. Resoldered the 75 chip to fix the incorrect sound issue. Installed 2 missing 9 pin 1k resistor networks for player 3/4 controls. Tested.
