Title: How do you remove the reel strips?
Post by: jdkmunch on May 11, 2009, 12:30:03 PM
I spent a bit yesterday cleaning the strips on my 40x  - I was able to clean the outside and I'm pleased with the outcome.  What I'd like to do is take the strips off and clean the backs as well.  I looked and looked but it seems that the basket is one piece.

How do you take the strips off?

I don't want to damage them in any way.

With the strips off I can clean and replace the bulbs in the basket too.

You have two choices.
A) Remove the E clip on the center hub and pull the reel basket off the motor shaft. Then clean the backside with the strips still on the basket.
B) Remove the strips from the reel basket from the double sided tape. Clean and reinstall with new double sided tape.

What game are you trying to clean?

I have found that on many Williams that I have changed strips on, they also attach double sided tape on the basket cross bars and not just on the end of the strips.

Just clean them up with a paper towel and water.
They should clean up fine. No water soluble inks here.
If anything weird happens, I have you covered if you need a set.

Thanks.. The front looks like new - the back is filthy.  I cleaned around the spokes but I would really like to take them off get them spotless then put them back.  I am not going to mess around though - removing the tape and putting it back my prove to be destructive - so I'll proceed with a q-tip and TLC and clean the inside.
