Title: Cooling Fan Question Post by: jdkmunch on May 13, 2009, 01:51:54 PM I saw the thread about the overheating issues and I really want to make sure I keep my machine as cool as possible. I have a 5V computer fan with a power supply pass through cable. My top box has the original power supply in the dot screen. Can I simply plug the fan in using this power supply or do I have to perform the ATX mod first? I don't want to do the mod until the power supply goes bad. If it isn't broken - don't touch it.
Title: Re: Cooling Fan Question Post by: rickhunter on May 13, 2009, 01:57:25 PM The power supplies on the Dot's are finicky and just adequate at best, I would just purchase a stand-alone power brick with the molex connector on it and use that. You can get them when you buy the usb to S-ATA/IDE kits like this one:
