Title: Tabasco Sound ?
Post by: stormrider on May 13, 2009, 10:11:51 PM
I have a S2000 Tabasco with mmlite and proper sound simm
my question is in stereo mode the top 3 symbols being Tabasco, red, and orange make NO sound when hit on first reel position
but if 3 different or matching symbols hit on payline it makes correct sound I just never get sound on first reel position.

NOW

In mono mode selected via mmlite menu when the Tabasco, red,or orange symbol hit on first reel I get the correct sound
can someone shed some light on this for me am I missing something why doesn't it work in stereo mode ??????
also the stereo sound is much better, this is also a early version S2000 (2000)model it that matters.
Thanks. Tim

That does sound rather odd, do you have a amp board in the topbox of your slot? Also I noticed there are dips on the Simms, I understand these are used during programming but will a dip change cause problems?

Dan, Yes it has the sound board.I wonder myself what the dips control they are all in the off position
all I know is all sounds are missing on first reel in stereo mode but not in mono.

You have a wire harness in the top box that has the left channel split to both channels on the amp.  It probably says 'Blaylocks' on it.  You will need to replace that harness.

Ruden, Nowhere on the harness does it say Blaylocks but has the following # 60208603 A then F.I. 700 the wires also go through 2 big Toroid chokes which I believe to be anyway
I will get a picture in the morning if that helps. Thanks for your input

Can you tell me the simm number.  DSV?????
There is a 5 reel, Reel Touch version of Tabasco. Maybe you have the wrong simm?
Thanks,
Eric

Eric, anything we should be aware of about the dip settings that could give any kind of problems?

WARNING, don't turn them on and then turn the machine on.  They are for programming the simm, nothing else.  The simm ciould actually be damaged if you turn the dips on and then turn the machine on.

That's odd, and not that it's related, but I have never seen an S2000 with that 9 pin netplex that way.  It's only connected to the 12V and common pins.

Jeff, I don't know but maybe something with these early model S2000 being that the problem is
top 3 symbols only make sound on first reel in mono but not in stereo mode with DSV 22
but as Ruden posted I need to change the Blaylocks harness or maybe change pins around
have not heard back from him yet but will be great to get this sorted out for full stereo sound.

On this connector, are there two wires sharing one of the holes?

Yes the green wire with blue stripe top left in the photo

Nice call Ruden. K+  Maybe someone can post a pic here of a properly wired molex for the stereo sound so stormrider can fix his. Hey Jeff, I have a few S2000's that were wired the same way prior to me putting in the distribution board.  :103-

Then this is your problem. This harness is taking the sound from the left channel coming from the MML and splitting it into two wires that go to the amp's left and right channels.  So, what you hear in stereo mode sounds like stereo, but isn't.  The missing sound you are referring to is only being played on the right channel, so this explains why you don't hear it in stereo mode.  In mono mode, both the left and right channel sounds are sent through the left channel, so this explains why you can hear it in mono.  To correct this problem, you will need to either replace the harness or cut the wire that goes to the right channel of the amp, strip the end and stick it in the hole next to the one sharing two wires.  Of course, if you have the parts/tools to make these wiring harnesses, fix it the right way.  There is nothing wrong with the machine or the Tabasco SIMM.  You're not going to hurt anything by doing so, so I would cut and strip the wire to correct the issue while you look for another harness.  Or leave it Jerry-rigged, your choice.

My guess on why these harnesses exist is that early on there were/still are quite a few S+ titles that were put into S2000 machines with SS software using the SB001000 chip and MML board (without a 42 SIMM).  This means the legacy S+ sounds were used and since these sounds are not in stereo, sending the sound through the left channel to the amp in the top box was sufficient enough to get it working and put on the casino floor.  I don't question IGT's logic anymore.  It is what it is.

Ruden, Great thanks for the explanation I assume your talking about moving the wire(green) on the 8 pin in the picture not
the ones on the amp ? I will get to this today and report back Thanks and karma to you.

Very interesting.  My only early model was a 1998 vision ready and the 9 pin didn't have anything connected to it.  From what I can tell the vision ready machines didn't even have a place to mount the distribution board too.  No mounting studs on the back wall of the top box.

Yes, the wires in the pic.  The amp schematic will tell you which one goes to the right channel on the black 10-pin connector on the amp.

Ruden, I would like to thank you for the schematic and help it is now working
what ended up working best for stereo sound was wires on top row being
[green blue] white [green blue] white.
The machine is now set in stereo mode and first 3 pay symbols make sound when hit on first reel
also I checked the MFGR date on the side of the machine and it is dated 10/00
in case any other member might run across this with a Tabasco.

Thanks again...You Da Man
