Title: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: jdkmunch on May 16, 2009, 09:05:44 PM I'm looking for a second set of reels - for game swaps and such....
Thanks! MODERATOR: 6/20/2009 MOVED TOPIC FROM CLASSIFIEDS AND CHANGED SUBJECT FROM 'WTB: WMS 40x Reels' TO 'Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels'. Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: StatFreak on May 16, 2009, 10:43:47 PM That can work. But I've found that with the Dots, the best solution is to just buy the complete reels with the strips intact when buying a "kit". These backlit strips get very brittle and the original glue at the seam is strong. It's much easier to leave the strips on their original reels and just swap out the compete assemblies when changing kits. The strips stay nice and tight that way and always have clean flat seams, too. :71- You also end up with extra reel assemblies if you should need them down the road. I currently have three kits and nine reels. I've never touched one of the strips.

I bought the complete top box Dot assy as well so that I'd have an extra one of those, too. Come to think of it, I also bought the mpu boards. LOL. It really was a better deal than buying just the glass, strips and chips, and then looking for spare parts separately. Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: jdkmunch on May 16, 2009, 11:07:46 PM Do you think there are any kits out there?
I love spare MPU boards too! Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: cfh on May 17, 2009, 12:17:22 AM when ever i get dotmation reel strips, i clean them with Mean Green.
this gets the crap off. then i clean the glue off with Naptha (lighter fluid). Then when reinstalling the strips, you just use 3m Double side tape (yellow and black) which i buy at any drug store. it works great and it's reversible (removable) yet stays put and strong. far better than the original glue that came with the strips from the factory. Anyway, yes, it does look good -- thanks for the tips on cleaning up the gunk off the strips. I use double-sided tape too, although I think I'm just using the cheap Office Max brand tape. Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: StatFreak on May 20, 2009, 04:08:55 AM Thanks for posting the cleaning and remounting procedure. :3- :3- I would still prefer to have a set of first-generation strips that have never been removed from their baskets. JMO. :71-

Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: tacman on May 20, 2009, 09:50:38 AM JDK, here's an Ebay listing for one from John42355. Now that I'm looking at it though, the light assembly is set kind of high, maybe slant top reels? If so, can these be adjusted down for upright usage? Anyone know or comment?

I also know, as soon as I buy it, - 3 will come along :30-
Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: tacman on May 20, 2009, 10:19:39 AM Sure looks like it. I checked my machines and the backlit assemby is at almost a 90 degree angle from the base, these look too high. I think these are probably from a slant 400 (non dot) since I have never seen a slant dotmation. I think the reels would work in both machines, but don't know if the backlit assembly could be adjusted for upright use.

Thanks! we have williams 400 parts we have tons of parts Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: knagl on May 20, 2009, 06:20:16 PM JDK, here's an Ebay listing for one from John42355. Dan- I'll buzz in on this one. I've previously bought reels from John789234634789243276 and they were configured for a slant (based on the angle of the lights, as you observed). The good news, though, is that they're the same reels for the upright. If you have a 400 reel, look at how the light assembly is attached -- it's adjustable to swing between the upright and slant positions with the turn of a screw. To conclude, the reel he's selling will work for your machine. Terry- How much for a set of 400 reels from you? I might be in the market for some spares... Title: Re: Changing strips on WMS 40x Reels Post by: tacman on May 20, 2009, 06:34:33 PM Thanks for the input Kevin, I'm glad it can be adjusted, good to know for myself as well. And it looks like Slotdeals has parts available, would be nice to get at least a whole set. JDK, I would recommend the newer heavier clear plastic baskets if they have them.
