Is it just the back light assy that broke off or did the basket brake as well?

The basket is fine which I am very grateful.  It's only the light assembly.  I tried liquid nails small projects but that didn't work at all.   :60-

If you can peel the liquid nails off try super glue.  You will have to hold it in place until it sets though.

Yeah the liquid nails came off without even leaving a trace.  It didn't bond to the plastic at all.  :103-

That's odd. It does take a while to set and must not be disturbed in the process, but I've had excellent results on plastics and nonporous surfaces with it.
Under the circumstances I would go with idesign's suggestion. Personally, I've never had much success with consumer strength super glue. I have, however, used the industrial strength stuff that they use in anti-theft kits to glue computer workstation equipment to desks with good results.

Don't know if you really want to screw with trying to do a repair to that.
Keep in mind that piece runs inside the basket. If your repair should fail that would be rolling around that basket until you get a reel error code.
By then the non-protected side of your reel strip will be all tore up.
Then you'll really  :58- :58- :37- :8- :118- :7-

 Munch  this doesn't help with the reel but did the shipper have Insurance on the package?  I went out and looked at one of my Williams. You can repair what you have with a metal strap. Maybe I should say I could repair it, not knowing your skills or tool collection ( I'm overloading my A__ on this one ) Jonathan if you have a drill motor a small drill and a screw driver also a hacksaw. go buy a aluminium strap say 1 1/2" wide ( it"s going to be to long and you will have to cut it ) A longer screw where the plastic is mounted to the reel motor, some flat washers to shim the one screw and 3 or 4 smell sheet metal screws. now remove the one screw holding the broken plastic to reel motor, drill a hole in the strap and with your new longer screw mount the strap to reel motor using the flat washers to shim the strap a small ways out from the plastic piece. using the broken pieces for alignment drill 2,3, or 4 holes in the strap (not great big holes) then drill smaller holes in the light head with your brand new metal screws  mount the light head to the strap. now if every thing looks OK take it back apart and cut the excess strap off. Finished product might not be to pretty but only you, I , 1200 members and the guy you sell it to will know about it.   Let me add one more thing after it's all tog eather GLUE the ____ out of it it won't hurt.

There are quite a few plastics that glue just won't stick to. Especially nylon types.

If you can find a glue that will slightly melt the plastic chemically before setting you'll get a stronger repair.

Airplane model glue comes to mind - that stuff that smells like oranges?  I remember it melting the plastic pieces if you didn't know what you were doing...  If you do it right, you get a strong, yet pliable hold - which is probably what you need here.

There is a type of quick-set epoxy that contains methyl chloride (once smelled, never forgotten), which is the active ingredient of paint stripper. This will etch and bond to most plastics, except the waxy types** which nothing will ever stick to. I think you can get it at Home Depot. It's the two-tube syringe type, one of the tube contents is clear and the other is yellowish-white opaque. The methyl chloride is mentioned on the back of the packaging.

That's a Starpoint RMS reel, by the way. You may be able to get a replacement light assembly from Happ Controls (http://www.happcontrols.com/starpoint/12rms.htm).


** eg polypropylene and PTFE, which chemically are polymerized waxes. The Van der Waal force prevents any solvent penetration, and their surfaces are self-leveling at molecular scales so nothing can key to it.
