Title: #31 Overpay error on Universal ULTRA SERIES
Post by: jvanhoey on June 17, 2009, 11:50:06 PM
Hey, uniman.....Joe from Capac here.  How is life in the new environment?  Fine, I hope.  If hitting the reset button doesn't take care of the problem, what next?  I tried clearing the ram and I'm pretty sure I was successful but I am still getting the #31 and flashing tilt.

Doing great Joe.

This is for the Ultra-Series slot.
Error 31 "Overpay" can be caused by the board not seeing the photo-interrupter on the hopper. Let's look at how it is caused.
In the hopper there is a photo-interrupter that counts the coins as they leave the hopper. The board sees this interrupter under normal conditions. If it doesn't see it when it should (not paying out), Error 31.
How doesn't it see it?
A. There could be a coin stuck over the interrupter. Look in the slot where the coins come out to see if a coin is stuck in there.
B. The hopper is not making connection to the plug.
C. The board needs to be reseated. (doubtful in this case)
D. The photo-interrupter has failed. (again I would say doubtful)
E. The board has failed. (Doubtful again)

Look for a coin stuck in the hopper first. Then check that plug. (maybe swap hoppers, or even swap the plug to your other machine and see if it follows)

Pressing the yellow reset will clear error 31 if the problem has been corrected. RAM reset should not be needed in this case.

Hi uniman.  Before I read your reply I played with it again.  I reset the ram.  Now I get an error 43 third wheel message.  Believe me, I worked on the hopper first thing.  No jammed coins....that's for sure.  I've had that problem before and working with the spring in the hopper has released the jammed coin.

Reseat your board by pressing firmly on both corners. When you reset the RAM press gently on the three buttons with a thumb underneath, try not to flex the board. This reel error is a clear indication the board is loose.

If no coin stuck in the hopper, than it's the hopper plug or if you only get the reel error and not 31 after the RAM clear, then it is all caused by the board being loose in it's connection. I also responded to your email.
