Title: What's Needed To Change Over From $.25 To $.5? Post by: 5 ACES on June 22, 2009, 04:26:03 AM I am looking to change a quarter machine over to a nickle machine. For some odd reason, my coin mechanism accepts both quarters, pennies and nickles and it will count them all as a credit when inserted into the machine. Do I need to change over anything in the hopper? Just wondering before I put any nickles in it. Thanks!! Shawn

Starting from the outside..... Nomally you would change the coin head this is the silver thing on the outside of the machine. The sample coin in the coin comparitor should cause it reject the "other coins"... It "sounds" like your comparitor solinoid might be wire-tied in place. This is a solinoid that has a coin rake on it. It is held in the reject postion by a return spring. When a valid coin is played the rake is pulled back by the solinoid and the coin passes through to the optics When there is no power or max coins have been played the power to the solinoid is released. The coin optics have a replaceable spacer, normally for nickles you add in a larger spacer and for a dime you go to a thiner one. If nickels are passing I would not worry about this. Usually it is more important for thinner coins because if the optics miss seeing the coin it simply steels your money (no credit). dirty optics will do the same thing. In the Coin hopper you normally have to change out the wheel so it lifts the coins to the correct height so they are counted by the optics. Also different styles of hoppers (pin wheels or shelf weels) have to be right otherwise you might get coin jams. Title: Re: What's Needed To Change Over From $.25 To $.5? It is weird that it takes nickles and pennies, though last week, I did have this happen in a real casino. I found out that a quarter machine was taking my nickles by accident! I thought that was pretty cool, but didn't do it too many times in fear of getting caught! I may change the hopper guts to work with nickles, so it counts them correctly as you stated. I accomplished filling the hopper to the top with quarters, so now I'll try and fill it with nickles. Thanks again for the info... Title: Re: What's Needed To Change Over From $.25 To $.5? or did the nickels and pennies just fall through into the tray? If it added them to credits, the technician who worked on the machine would be fired... esp. if the rake is bent up or held back with something. :60- Title: Re: What's Needed To Change Over From $.25 To $.5? Counts them up as credits. The S+ that I played last week in a casino was a quarter machine, taking nickles and yes, it was counting them as credits and they were falling into the hopper! :3- Title: Re: What's Needed To Change Over From $.25 To $.5? Please ensure that the sales team has the appropriate jurisdiction approval prior to finalizing the deal. If not then file an application for approval which will be sent to the approval department. IN our approval department, we have Betsy, our most experienced employee, who incidentally had her 87th birthday last week going through this pile. Betsy has an eyesight issue so the use of a large magnifying glass aids her in accomplishing this, unfortunately Betsy does suffer from headaches with prolonged use of the magnifying glass, and is therefore limited to a half hour each day. There is a slight backlog in this department of approximately 12342 applications, so we are patiently awaiting approval for an additional staff member to assist. Betsy has indicated that the application for increasing the staffing level is at approximately the half pile mark. Thanks you for your patience and understanding with this process.
