Title: IGT red white and blue bill reader problem
Post by: yankeebravo on June 25, 2009, 01:53:21 AM
OK, I am totally new to this so forgive any mistakes, I just got a IGT red white and blue slot machine for my game room, the first experience with owming a slot machine for me. I ordered a bill acceptor for it because it did not come with one,       it came with a reset chip , I followed all the directions that came with it to reset it so it will read the bill acceptor and I get to the point when after installing the new chip the coins played window is supposed to read 0. It does not. I believe I have the bill acceptor hooked up correctly, there were no directions for that, It cycles when I turn the machine on though. I have tried a few times taking it out and re inserting it but nothing. I am also being cautious as the original chips legs are getting weak and do not want to try and have to find a new one. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated,  am I just missing something or doing something wrong? also I have gotten another reset chip and it too did not work. I do have the polarity correct also. Thanks for reading, Brett

Are you installing the chips in the right sockets.. You remove the reel prom and do a reset first then remove and install the set chip in the reel prom socket.

Have you tried pushing the white test button after you install the SET chip. The reset chip, or clear chip, will just clear your memory on the machine. The set chip sets up your denomination and turns on and off your validator. Once you do get it working make sure you set a denomination otherwise your BV will never work.

What the what?  I think I got bad directions, as I said before I am new and pretty sure the machine is smarter than I am.  I did not know I needed to remove the other chip. Are there any step by step directions  on the web  I looked but could not find any other than the ones I had. I was installing iot inthe right space but never took out the other chip. Thanks.

Had them backwards, you remove the GAME chip and replace it with your set chip but leave the reel chip in. Here's some more instructions

Thanks, I will give it a try but I think I did it like that. You said in the first post to remove the reel prom and do a reset? But the directions say to put the set chip in the game prom. or is it two separate things? I will try again tomorrow, Thanks for all the help

Your motherboard should be marked with REEL and GAME prom locations, you just pop out the GAME chip prom and insert your SET chip or your CLEAR chip if you want to clear the RAM first.

Brett-

Check out this FAQ (http://www.newlifegames.net/faq1/faq.php?answer=4&cat_name=IGT%20S%20%20SLOT:%20All%20About%20Bill%20%20Validators&category_id=2#4) for some step-by-step instructions.

Make sure you have a SET chip.  It may be labeled as "SET 15" or "Bill Validator Set Chip" or the like.  This is different from a RAM clear chip.  You stated that you have a "reset chip" but I'm not sure what you mean by that.  What is that chip labeled as?

ok, I replaced the game chip with my chip marked bv /denom. replaced it in the machine, powered up and nothing in the coins played window at all, I was doing it right but I have nothing in the window, even tried shutting the door. is it possible the validator is installed wrong? I have two wires which are cut coming out of the front, but the red lights inside come on and it cycles (gears turn) when I power the machine on. I can post pictures of the wires if it helps. As far as I know there was just the obvious harness attatchments hanging loose and the one for the bezel in the door.

Press the self test switch.

Leave the door open while you're trying to do this.  As OhioGaming posted, try pressing the small white "self test" button (located right next to or behind the power switch) once you've powered it on to see if you get the display expected.  If you still do not get any response, either the chip is not in the socket correctly or you have a bad SET chip.  I'm pretty certain that the machine will still let you use the set chip even if the DBV is not connected properly or isn't working.

I ordered a new chip, it arrived while I was gone, I followed the instructions and it worked with no problem. It was a bad chip the whole time. Thanks for all your help guys. I now have a problem getting the bill acceptor to take the bills and keep them, it keeps spitting them back out. all older currency, not the new ones as i did not upgrade the machine for it. the bill acceptor lights also dont work, I am going to take it out and put it back in later I think I have it in wrong, The door was not shutting smoothly like it did before( rubbiing against the bezzel) and there was a slight grind that was not there before.

Pictures might help at this point.  What model of dollar bill validator do you have?  It might be set for the wrong ID number for your machine, since it didn't come with it.  If it's a DBV-145, what is the ID number on the chip on the under-side of the validator head?
