Title: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on July 02, 2009, 01:45:44 PM Hi everyone,
Newbie to the forum here. Tried search, no luck, but like I said newbie. I aquired a "New Lucky 8 Lines" from a deseased relative who used to repair video games and pinball machines. The unit I have is a homemade table top which I am trying to restore. I am having some wiring problems as the game does some very funny things, like resetting in the middle of a game, or freezing up when the start button is pushed. I also have no information on the dip switches. Can anyone here help me out? I understand schematics to a point, but would like to get as much info as I can, seems like a pretty nice game. I have searched the internet till I'm blue in the face, the last couple of days and can't find a wiring or dip switch diagram. I am going to try to attach some photos of the game and board Thanks Gary P.S. I checked the power supply and everything checks, even tried cranking up the 5V source some -no luck with problems Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on July 02, 2009, 01:48:37 PM Here are a couple more pics.
Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: Randy0777 on July 14, 2009, 06:19:58 AM Hi Gary ,not sure what type of buttons you have since you said it was custom built and I do not see them in a picture. First thing is set it back to 5.0V with a meter...theses boards do not like anything else :89- When you say the schematics,do you have the manual ? If you look at the board you will see the numbers by the connections. Also, did you get any extra boards? I have my main computer tore apart at the moment, but I'll send you the manual Tue evening.
I just checked this PC and did have a few manuals. Look up top in "Submit a new file"...the blue tabs. Oh,another thing. The toggle switch on the board,NEVER flip it with power to the machine. That is to clear all game play also when you change the DIP switch settings they will not go into effect until you turn it off than on. And them little white plastic screws in your picture is the volume control. Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on July 14, 2009, 01:43:04 PM Randy,
Thanks for your reply. Let me answer your questions as posted 1. There are 6 buttons on the console(see pic). 2. I did set it back to 5.0V with a meter, didn't know that, thanks. 3. I don't have either a manual or schematic of the board. 4. I did notice the numbers on the connections and have a very, VERY basic understanding of the board. 5. No, I did not get any extra boards when I was given this one. 6. I looked in "submit a new file" section, but the only thing I saw was a Cherry Masters PDF, is that the same? 7. I don't know how many times I used the reset switch with the power "ON", could I have done damage that way? 8. I knew about the dip and white sound potentiometers. I do have another question regarding another small potentiometer on pic 1089, lower portion of the board above the bottom connector, it has a "50K" label on the board right above it. When things started going south, with the board I tried adjusting that, but nothing happened. Can you tell me what that is used for? :30- Thanks Gary Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: Randy0777 on July 14, 2009, 05:03:08 PM Yes,that is the manual with the wiring . When you look at the board you will see the numbers and just match them up (you do have a front and back tho,but you will be able to tell the difference). Are you talking about the adj screws in pic 90? If you use the reset with power on you have a really good chance of toasting something :98- . Not sure of the 50K,I'll pull some of my boards out and check them. And the buttons you have are the standard ones. I would keep a eye out on ebay for boards. The one you have now is like the first one they came out with. 90% of the boards you can use with your setup
Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on July 14, 2009, 05:29:30 PM Randy,
If you can stick around about 15min I'll get a close up of the part on the board and post it! Gary Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on July 14, 2009, 05:50:48 PM Randy,
The potentiometer I'm talking about is in pic14. Pic 13 gives an idea of it's position in reference to the two volume controls. I noticed that the "Cherry Masters" PDF has 5 banks of dip switches mine only had 4. And the wiring only show grounds on the last two, where mine has the last 4 in use. Does that matter do you think? Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: Randy0777 on July 14, 2009, 08:51:25 PM Hi Gary, my daughter could not get either four wheelers started so was fixing them (flooded naturally :25-). Just replied to your PM...
Just pulled my boards out and out of 23 boards,I have only one like yours and it has the same adj there :103- . I never even noticed it before but I'll stick it in one of the games and see what it does :) Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: travlingtech on July 19, 2009, 01:46:09 AM it is a volume control. Normally I set the + 5 v at 5.15 measured at the board.
Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: Op-Bell on July 19, 2009, 03:24:54 AM I sincerely doubt the small pot in pic 14 is a volume control. It's next to a 556, which is a dual 555 timer chip, and almost certainly sets the speed of some game function. The other 2 pots are between the Yamaha YM2149 sound chip and the NEC power amplifier, those will be volume controls.
There are a number of versions of this 8-liner board. They all look similar, but they're all slightly different. They are known as "Lulac" boards. A guy called Lulac designed it in the 1980s and sold it to a number of different companies, each of which thought they were the only one. The diagram for any of them should be helpful for all of them, though every company modified their own version a bit over the years. The main differences are in the I/O section - many people got rid of that row of power transistors and replaced them with driver chips. The heart of the board, the memory/video system, stayed pretty much the same for everyone. Gary sent me his board to check out. Looks like he fried a few things hitting the toggle switch with the power on...Which he wont do again :96- PS,Hey Gary,I like Molson Ice or Jack :97- Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: ibflamez310 on August 03, 2009, 07:18:10 AM I OWN 5 W-4 , NEW LUCKY 8 LINE SLOT MACHINES AND HAVE KNOW IDEA HOW TO OPERATE THEM THEY HIT ALOT I WANT TO CHANGE THE WINING PERCENTAGE AND WANT TO LEARN HOW TO OPERATE THEM,.. I just signed up. How can I get access to that PDF? Tia. Title: Re: "New Lucky 8 Lines" Post by: gars943 on February 12, 2012, 09:38:43 AM Tia,
I am having problems getting access to the "Submit a new file tab" at the top of the page. I'm not sure if that's the same problem your having, anyway the files that I did have, were on a different computer which has met it's demise. Sorry, Gary |
