   CDS top box chaser lights, LED's, what is the voltage for replacement LED's

Do you know what the voltage is for the LED lights in the top box of the, like "Code Red" or maybe "Razzel Dazzle" games, they're Called chaser lights? or what the replacement number led would be.

Most of the LED toppers I've seen are 12v

They should be 12VDC, but I have come across some that run at 7.2VDC

I realize this is an old thread but I wanted to update some info here in light of my recent tinkering:

The individuals LED voltages are all (about) the same: 2.5 to 3 VDC.  The sequencer supplies 12VAC.  My Pickpocket light chaser has 3 circuits, 12 LEDs per circuit, they are all wired in parallel and the 3 circuits share 2-watt 50 ohm resistor in serieswith the return wire to reduce the LED voltage (current).  Because they are running them on AC voltage you can (and should) alternate the polarity of the individual LEDs, this will help keep reverse voltage at a minimum (trust me).  If you find your LEDs are too bright try replacing the resistor with something larger like maybe 100 ohms, just be sure its a physically large (>2 watt) resistor or it may burn up.  One last thing, a good LED may not light up if it is in a circuit of LEDs that all have a lower operating voltage i.e. a string of red LEDs only needing 2.5 vdc and one blue LED needing 3 volts.  The blue wont light because the reds are clamping the parallel circuit at 2.5 volts.
