   Mills Golden Nugget Jackpot problems
« on: July 06, 2008, 12:41:52 PM »

I need a little help in repairing a Mills Golden Nugget slot machine. The antique one.

The jackpot mech in the front middle of the game.  The doors don't completely close after a jackpot.  The almost close and when ever you pull the handle they open a little dropping coins.

I don't have the machine in front of me at the moment. I will be driving a few hours to it on Tuesday and just want to be prepared.

Does anyone know what closes or resets the Jackpot door?  Or what might be going on in this situation.

Thanks very much,

Russ

Hi Rick,

If you didn't get your Mills jackpot problem solved yet, it most likely needs to be taken apart and lubricated.  I usually lay the machine face down on a moving pad (the the mechanism removed), and take a VERY long screwdriver and remove the 3 jackpot shoulder screws.  You can then remove the jackpot.  Once out, on the "handle' side of the jackpot you will see a large shoulder screw.  If you remove this, lubricate it and reassemle, it should free up your jackpot and make it work more freely.  They really get sluggish from sitting. While you have it out, check any other moving parts to see that they are operating smoothly.  If not, now is the time to loosen them up.  Hope this helps.
99% of the Golden Nugget machines are either complete reproductions or old Mills Black Cherry machines that have had a Golden Nugget kit installed. Original Golden Nuggets have heavy chrome trim around the base and formica over the wood sides.  I have 2 originals, a quarter "potbelly" and I recently picked up a nickel half top.  If you can post a picture I can tell you if yours is the real deal or not.   Mark

Were you able to get it working correctly?  If not,  Post a picure of the jackpot.  I will be able to help,  but only if I know whether it's an original or a repo.  The originals have a reserve jackpot that get reset at every pull and can cause this problem.   If it's a repro,  it most likely a bent lever that actually closes the door on the next pull after a win.

I had the same problem with my Black Cherry, 1948-49.
Please remember if you hit a Jackpot tot take a large screwdriver & pull the two top levers back & cycle the machine when out of the cabinet. This will Make the Jackpot lever retract & you may slide the mech. back into the machine with out tripping the jackpot window again.
Hope this helps.
I have a ogrinal   Blue Castle Front, in mint condition,  original Mills label behind the drill proof sides, 12-26-35
I also have  the Black Cherry.
I'm going to put my 1935 on a table next to my 2004 S2000
