Title: NEED, VLC Ring em up multi game touch screen video machine model 8724 manual
Post by: icu44444 on July 28, 2009, 07:19:16 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed no one replied back to my prior posting so I removed prior attempt at humor and am now asking again in this thread versus the manuals thread. I would really really like to get a manual or anyone have or know where I can get a manual for the VLC model 8724 multi game touch screen video machine.

THANKS

Is there a specific problem you're encountering with your machine?  If so, you may wish to start a new topic (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?action=post;board=55.0) with as much information as possible about your machine and the issue, and some of the members here may be able to help.

The manual is hard to find, and honestly isn't that great when it comes to repairing VLC's.  You'll probably have better luck posting your problem here, and someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

I have a manual for the 8825 VLC machine. Its almost as thick as the bible. Bought it at the Slot show about 2 years ago. I do not know if this would help you but this manual covers the whole nine yards.

The trick is to get that puppy into digital form...and to get it to come out looking half decent...
that won't be easy at all...no...no... :60- :8-

How many pages is the manual? I've digitized other (out of print) manuals before (as large as 300 pages) and you are right, it's a lot of work, but worth it if enough people need it. I'd be willing to accomplish the task if I can obtain a copy of the manual.

My Ricoh at work scans to PDF and writes to the network drive- 300pages at 150dpi is 4.5min. The only issue becomes the size of the file.
If you want to easily send them around you need to keep under 10mb.

My Color Dell Lazer at home does the same but is somewhat slower and 300 pages would take around 20min.

I also have a older HP multi-functional. The scanner on it writes to a TIFF fiormat and then I need to convert it. This would take about 2hrs for the scan (assuming no misfeed issues) done in 3 batches as the max feed size is 100.

If the size of the scanned document is too large, often the case in maintaining legibility of schematics. The file can be hosted and a link can be provided.

We don't post, host or reproduce any documents on this site.

We used to ask members to upload all of their manuals and kept a download area neatly arranged but were advised (aka threatened) that some of these works were under copywrite and we ott to remove them before a civil filing was made.

Under the fair - use copywrite act individuals can share personally owned information with other like minded members who have a need to further their education. So if there is something you need, you are welcome to post and some other kind member will perhaps email you the document or if its too large we have the Upload area that allows for large document transfer - this is cleaned out perodically so don't look at it as a data stor.

Its 200 pages one sided or 100 pages if you copy on each side. I don't know what Office Max or one of those copy centers would charge to make a copy. Maybe I'll call Office Max and see what it cost. If somebody needs one I would charge nothing except the price to copy and ship. On the cover it says VLC Gaming Machine Version1. It covers Models 8825CG and 8825CG 17-2 and 8825NV and 8825NV 17-2 and 8825NJ 17-2. I hope this info is helpful for the VLC owners. I own a VlC 8825 and I love it. Buddy from Texas helped me out big time when my board needed work.

My bad, I reviewed the rules again and I apologize for my mistake. My machine is the aforementioned 8724, how much does this differ from the 8825 series?

The 8724/8725 was the generation before the 8825.  It has older graphics and some different parts "under the hood."

Again I ask, are you experiencing a specific problem with your machine that perhaps one of our members could assist you with?

Yes, the specific problem is a reset fail error code 10 "back-up ram battery fault." I've checked both batteries on the memory backup daughterboard (771-101-011) and both batteries are above 3.18v. The smart battery on the motherboard also checks good at over 3.1v. The back-up battery on the other daughterboard (793-411-011) measured low at 2.7v, so I piggybacked a 3v battery pack to bring the voltage up to above 3v. This did not clear the error.  I've tried removing the PAL chip and doing a hard reboot, first without the chip and then with the chip replaced without success. (I found this recommendation in another thread) I'm assuming that the motherboard needs to be reset using a zero chip that matches the 150 region code on the PAL chip. Occasionaly I will get a "critical ram back-up failure" but this is inconstant and may be due to a glitch in the start up diagnostic. Any suggestions you can make to clear the fault or how to enter the diagnostic or other menus would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I suspect that you are correct that you'll need to find a 150 zero (clear) chip.  I can only wish you luck, as they're tough to come by.

For what it's worth, Jim from Blueridge listed one for sale a while back (here (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=5173.msg44550.0)) -- I don't know if he sold it or if he still has it, but it might be worth sending him a message.

Here's what the manual has to say about your error.  As I mentioned, the manual really isn't that great -- see how little it tells you about the error:

Thanks for the manual pages. Wow, I'd read that the manual was oriented toward quick board swap solutions. Amazing that the procedure doesn't even require voltage checks on the backup batteries. It makes you wonder why they even bothered to put test-points on the boards. I wonder if they ever produced a bench tech manual for repair once the boards were returned to the manufacturer.

I agree...without any specific reference -
the TP points are useless if you don't know what readings you should get.
The pinball guys have that all written out for their TP points.
I wish we could compile reading ranges for slot board TP's.

Do you wish to sell the manual?
