Title: "Stayouttadabunker's" Marks New Machines - And Answer to the Subaru Question
Post by: Bettor Slots on August 15, 2009, 02:58:18 PM
As Mark "Stayouttadabunker" is one of the most helpful and prominant posters here on NLG...I thought this would make a fun post of events over the past couple of days.

Mark was in the market for a couple of new machines so of course we were happy to fill the order.  I will let him decide to post pictures of what he got.  Mark drove 20 hours round trip to pick up 2 nice machines and we offered him a room for the night.  We had a great night of tinkering, playing slots, and getting fat on pizza.  And Mark, thanks for the tips on soldering as we were able to repair a S2000 board.

On a personal note, it was really nice to finally meet you in person....Cathy and I really enjoyed your company.  It was nice to hear about your family, your history, and the education on your heritage.

AND NOW FOR SOME FUN PHOTOS AND "FAMOUS QUOTES".....AND THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION "CAN YOU FIT 2 MACHINES INTO A SUBARU SEDAN"

MARK SAYS "OH MAN I AM SOOOOO UNLUCKY...DOES THIS MACHINE EVER HIT?"

Jim,
I'm gonna kill you!.... :97-

Oh man...what a day.... :96-
The first I did when I got home was take a nice long hot shower because I sweated my bloody b...ls off! :72-
It was like in the 90's all the way home and I was so cramped in there!!!!
Why oh why,  didn't I just go rent a Uhaul? :25- :25- :25- :30- :30- :30-

Tell ya what guys, he has THE best , nicest looking machines I have EVER seen out there...
They are so clean that you can serve food with these cabinets...I am NOT kidding ya!
His ideas about how to market a machine and to perfectly shop one COMPLETELY out is top-notch.  :71-
I was like a little kid at a candy store...UN-believable...you HAVE to see his showroom...it is totally awesome...
We talked about a million things in the very little time we had together....
I have nothing but the upmost respect for what he's doing with all these different types of machines...
I can only dream to do what Jim's doing.
Even though I love what I do...I'd drop it in a heartbeat to do what Jim's doing, if I could... :89-

well, I MUST get some rest...I cannot wait to get up in the morning and start putting them back together again....lol

Well so you did!  :72- :72-  Stout, there is no doubt that you are the king of disassembly!  :131- :131-  As I browsed these photos, what kept going through my mind was, "Why does Mark need those machines? He already has a disembodied S+ spread out all over his workbench -- complete with a quarter for the door optic." :96- :97- :97- :97-

Look on the bright side: if you had been pulled over on the way home, you'd have been legal in any state. "Officer, they're just a bunch of junk parts, not slot machines!" :5- :71-

If anyone could install a working slot machine into a car's dashboard, it would be you.  :89- :91- :79-

Oh, I have had them back together like two days later...
pictures in the next few days...
The S+ is working great!

I have a problem with the S2000 though...
I cannot get the "Call Attendent" message and "Door Closure B" to go away for the life of me... :7-
It's almost as if the door optics aren't working... :129-
Coins are dropping thru into the tray....arghhh!  lol
but when I view the door emitter with a video camera - I see a faint flashing going on in there.
It seems okay...should there be any lights on the MPU cage above the test switch?
I don't have any lights on except for the green coin comparitor light.
Are S+ emitter optics the same "wattage" as an S2000 door emitter?
I'm awaiting certain blanks from mouser to make a clear chip so I can perform a ram clear...
You think I'm going in the right direction? :128-

Just a guess since I do not YET own an S2000 but ... Does the Bill Validator have a door switch connection in place?  If that switch is open, I am guessing you may get a door open error.

Congrats on your new slots!  :3- :3- :3-

Mark,

If I remember correctly, that is the machine that we took the door off completely.  There are a couple things here we need to check here.  It's possible that the door optic is just slightly out of alignment giving you the door open error.

You don't need to do a Key 17 or anything dramatic like that...the machine is cleared and running as you saw when you played it that night you came to pick it up.  Don't open a bigger can of worms here than you need to....LOL.

Let's do this:

1)   Try this test with the machine on and the door latch push down hard and fully all the way down (make sure the door is fully closed and aligned tight at the top of the door when you do this).  If you are getting your door open error at that point (which you are) then take the hammer and just tap up lightly and in small increments watching the LED display at the same time.  One or two taps (light taps - trying to move it up fractions of a milimeter) up might clear it and tell you that it is slightly out of alignment.  Let me know the results....the door optic itself could also just be going bad and I can send a new one no problem.

2)   Open the door to the cash can and check the door switch...make sure door is closing well.  Option....just cut the 2 wires and join them and wrap with electrical tape.

3)  Open the belly glass door and look in the upper left hand corner.  Tell me which condition you have....picture one or picture two below:

Jim

Also,

For future reference....if the error codes read as follows.....

Cash Can door not closed or wires not connected will give you a code "CALL ATTENDANT - DOOR OPEN B - CLOSURE M"

Main door not closed (or optic out of alignment) will give you "CLOSURE B - DOOR OPEN M"

Thank ya...I did check the two green wires that I believe that were at one time for that are indeed tied up together down there.
And, there's no belly door switch nor any noticeably loose nor any hanging/hidden wires.
It looks like "picture 1 "
As far as cash can switch open...there's none. No switch...nada.
2 green wires are tied together.

I tried the hammer tapping upwards and downwards and all over...lol

So I physically removed the optics from both the door and cabinet and
lined them up by hand to eliminate door optics alignment error for now.
Puzzles, puzzles, I'm puzzled...lol

Should the coin mech LED be green? On? like it is?
Maybe it's a coin-mech-acceptance-adjustment-too-strict problem?

Finally, the error I'm getting is:
"CALL ATTENDANT - CLOSURE B"

Should the coin mech LED be green? On? like it is?

Hello!

That is odd.  Normally, with the door open, the green light on the comparitor would be OFF...not on - so I wonder if you have an error you just can't clear because the machine doesn't see you opening the door.  Can't clear an error unless you open the door.  Maybe try taking the cash can wires that are spliced together and un-splice them for a moment to see if the comparitor light goes off.  On my S2000 machines, if the door is open, that light is off....follow?

Hello!

Also, even if you don't have a belly door switch in the upper left corner, you should see green wires just like the cash can ones that are spliced together.  At least it's always been that way on any machine I've had - if there is no switch, there are spliced wires....

Post by: Bettor Slots on August 27, 2009, 01:35:34 AM
I don't agree with the comparitor statement....I just double checked my memory and looked at five running S2000's and with the door open the green comparitor light is on...not off.

Mark...my worry at this point is that we completely removed the cash can assembly and you remember there is a multitude of connection in the back there...double check all those for proper placement and connection.

I separated the blue w/white stripe and green wire behind the cash box.
Sorry, I thought they were BOTH green but I was wrong.
The error message changes slightly to:
"CALL ATTENDANT" and alternatively flashes to "DOOR OPEN B"

Coin comp green lite is still on though... :8-

No Mark...the 2 green wires at the front of the cash can box need to be connected in a loop...your problem may be all the connections behind the box.

Yes, I will....
I understand the green lite on the CC should be "on" then...hmm...

Behind the cash box, They are (the molexes) all different pin sizes....
what I mean by that is there's a 3-pin molex, a 4-pin molex,etc.
I can't mix them up...however, I will check and re-seat them together at this point - can't hurt...
I notice a hanging 2-pin molex up on the left hand side coming from the door harness...
does it go into the motherboard at the 2-pin "speaker" header
or does it go into the 2-pin molex a little below on a different harness bundle?

Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 27, 2009, 01:47:05 AM
The 2-pin, 4-pin, and 5-pin molexes are re-seated...
There's nothing for the 3-pin connector...Hmm..
uh...no change in error code...
I'm plugging several known good door emitters (red/black wires)
and known good receivers optics into the cab side (red/white)
still no change...can't get the machine to see the door is closed...
even when physically pointing the optics at each other...whaaa!

Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 27, 2009, 02:53:23 AM
I'd like to report that ArchJDS and I walked all over the machine by phone but
we sort of came to a conclusion that there may be a loose molex connection somewhere along the optic lines.
And or bad optics.
I will go thru the machines' wiring,  checking for continuity tomorrow evening with a multi-meter.
I will also bench test all of my optics (emitters and receivers) to see if they are okay.
Basically I'll be snipping apart harnesses plastic ties and following/ tracing wires from point A to Z.

Learned a few things tonite though....
the coin mech's green lite should be "ON" when the door is open...
that's a huge difference between S+'s and S2000's.
The coin comp lite is always off on a S+ when the door is open.

A few questions maybe you S2000 vets would know about...>>>

I'm wondering if there should be any lites "ON" on the MPU cage above the test switch?

Also, what is, or what would be... "normal" for the little green flashing lites in that white box's hole on the door panel? :128-

And finally, are S2000 door optics the same as S+ optics?

Still learning about this baby...lol

Somebody correct me if I am off on any of these...

Quote
I'm wondering if there should be any lites "ON" on the MPU cage above the test switch?

If the machine is operating normally they should be off.

Quote
Also, what is, or what would be... "normal" for the little green flashing lites in that white box's hole on the door panel?

If the green light is "on" on the vacuum display board then that tells you it is operating normally.  Yellow or off and you have problems.

And finally, are S2000 door optics the same as S+ optics?

I say yes...but throw a set in there and you tell us.

Just to note you can also bypass the optics for testing but from reading this thread it does not sound like you have a bill door issue and not the main door or optics.

So it looks like only door open is B (bill door)

Just to note it's solid green and blue wires.  Dont confuse these with the BV wires

Notes:

For optic bypass just connect the wires direct to each other with no optics using a trashed second set (pictured) add needed length.   This would not work well for normal use as the machine needs to see the door open and close but works for testing when you can't get the main door to close.

In the name of slot science  :137-...
I bench powered-up a known good optic door emitter...
While viewing the emitter with a video camera, it lights up at 2vdc and will get brighter at 3.3vdc.
Then it burned out at any power over 3.5vdc... :8-

I am wary of connecting the black door emitter wire to the red cabinet receiver wire...
I've done it on an S+ but never on a S2000.
But in the name of slot science...I reluctantly will.... :5-

More optical results later this afternoon....(Fingers crossed)

I looked again and traced it back, you are right the blue wire has a stipe on mine too, its gray on mine.

Trace both wires back to the backplane and ensure they are connected (tone out both wires to the connector).    Make sure you dont have a pinched wire etc.

Also in rare instances I have seen the main MPU board be the issue just to note.  I would say this is not the issue since you took apart the cabinet.

White or gray...lighting's bad...anyways, I think we're talking about the same correct wires.
I have pictured below an optics test harness I just made that I will try in a couple of hours.
Black from door emitter is connected to red cabinet receiver>>

hah! DISCOVERY!!!!
I tried the harness on my S+...doesn't work..
But when I switched the black door emitter to the white cabinet receiver, it worked!
Red door emitter should probably go to red cabinet receiver then?
Maybe that's how I need to connect it later to the S2000?

Hello all!

One of my current S2000 machines originally came with the main door bypassed.  This was done with a simple wire.  I have since removed it and put optics back in - I like machines to be as original as they can.

So it can be done on a S2000 - if someone would like, I can look at the machine and post what wires were connected together to do this....

you should not bypass the optics long term, the machine needs to see the door open to get into the config menus etc.   Plug when changing games you need to have the door open and close etc.

The optic picture I was showing was one that I used on an s2000 wired the way I had it and it worked.    s

The part that confuses me is why are we talking about the main optic when the error is "B" for bill door.

If the cash box door switch is cut at or near the switch .. try cutting the wires where they are tied to the cabinet wall and pulling them back behind the DBV frame and then splicing them back together.

as well as tone out to the connector.

a pinched wire or broken one can be the issue, remember the cabinet was disassebled.

I just skimmed this thread, congrats on getting your new machines, if you had a Mopar, you could have left them together..

one question to start, When you are in the menu, does it exit when you close the door?

one thing someone in the past mentioned was to pull out and reinsert the io card(machine off), just a thought.  Both door and cabinet IOs

I got it working!!!!

well, almost....lol
It's working via the cable I made...
I connected and re-connected the cable sevaral times to erase the "stacked" codes.
After playing about ...say 200 or more games...lol well...maybe more than that...lol
I cashed out a ticket....yeehooo! a $75.00 ticket!! ... :72-
Anyways, It seems that the problem was an extra switch harness w/connectors were slightly exposed...
I noticed when I closed the door, the game re-booted...huh? ( I thought)
so I peered inside under the door in next to the hole were the DBV usually sticks through and bingo!....
There it was!   The extra switch molexes were hanging down and grounding out against the DBV metal... :25-
I wrapped the ends with electrical tape up pushed them up behind the top of the coin mech bracket outtadaway!
Plugged in the test optic harness I made and started playing.
Later on, I plugged in the emitter/receiver door optics in their "normal" positions
( meaning, plugged back in to their prospective molexes and LED holders)
but still wasn't able to get the machine to see that the door was closed.
At least I'm down to only one error code now >>> "Door Open M"...resulting from perhaps a faulty optic LED.
At least I know that the optic wires are good because the game works when I'm using the optic bypass cable I made...
Gotta make some more emitter/receiver door optics outta some optics from some old coin-in boards.
Thanks to everyone for all their patience and help and support...
I've been flooded with fixes and hints , manuals and everything...
I'm overwhelmed by everyone's support... :'(
NLG rocks man!

Hello!

From one Tabasco owner to another - HOT machine !  :138-

FYI - you can fix the buzz in your speakers when the reels spin by putting a resistor inline with the speakers.  There is a thread here somewhere that talks about it - I'll see if I can find it.  My machine did the same thing - but that fixed it :)

Hey r273 and dpalmi?
Can I ask you guys a question...
Your machines has the split LCD display.
I was trying to figure out how to get mine to do that.
Can we compare chips?
I'm thinking that you might have something that allows for the split display
but I'm not sure what to get to make mine do that?
Mine says "Play 3 Credits" or "Coins Accepted" most of the time....
I have 2 LCD's, both have a slight screen burn in them that showed that they were at one time..."split"
I'm going to run and pull my board
and I'll post back in a few minutes with my chip numbers....

I was told that to use 362 or 363 and split display on the VFD you also need need the VFD updated to version 7.
I have used version 2 and 7 without any issues but your experience may differ.
