Title: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: Neonkiss on August 19, 2009, 11:24:06 PM The 50.000 is a door open code. That's what you want to see.
I'm not sure about the "8.0.3.0.0.1 code that you get on start up. Might have to check with Barry on that one. If you push the test button (on the left) 8 times you get to ........................................ Test 8 The machine should play with the door open. With the door open and in test 8 see if you can get the machine to play. Flick the coin switch one or two times and see if the handle will pull. When you described the other tests that you did with the machine with the machine everything sounded normal. Just make sure that when you do a test 4 that you have coins in the hopper. It should count out ten and then stop. Post back about the test 8 Title: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 20, 2009, 12:02:13 AM I PUSHED THE LEFT ONE 8 TIMES BUT NOTHIN HAPPENS THE LEFT ONE IS THE ONE FOR THE TESTS I THINK... WHEN I PUT IT ON THE 8TH TEST IT SHOWS 8.6. .0.0.0 BLINKING WITH . 0. .0.0.0 THE 8.6 BLINKS AND THE FIRST 0 ON THE . 0. .0.0.0
Title: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 20, 2009, 12:05:34 AM AND WHEN I DO TEST 4 IT SPINS THE COINS INSIDE BUT WHEN FINISHED IT SHOWS 3.2.0.0.0.0 WITH THE 3 AND 2 BLINKING...
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 20, 2009, 01:33:41 PM Phil - the 2 red buttons are the RESET (left) and TEST (right) and they are on the hopper control board. You seem to have found the TESTS the hard way. You really should have a Bally E-series operations manual which would help you run and understand the various tests. The major concern is the 83 code you seem to indicate you are getting when you first power up. If you press the RESET button release - then press the TEST button ONCE - your game should reset and be ready to play (that is if all is well). If you are still getting something other than a 50 000 or 71 000 in the win meter - then there is a problem. The best way to isolate the problem is to remove varous assemblies from the machine (ALWAYS POWER OFF when removing items from the machine). First remove the reel mechanism - with the mech. out of the machine - power on the machine - try the reset procedure (reset button - then the test button). If you still do not have the 50 000 or 71 000 code you have a board problem. Let us know what code you get in the win meter after removing the reel mechanism. By the way - was this machine WORKING when you got it or did you buy it not working?
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 20, 2009, 09:52:34 PM thanks for helping me barry, i did what you said and i found a wire that was cut... i fixed it and now it accepts coins but now when i spin the reels on test 8 they spin and stop but not where they supposed to... i think they need to be set? how do i do this? sumtimes when i win sumthing but i cant tell how i won... you do this on test 5 right? i got this machine and it lit up and all lights worked but tilt light was on... i have the manual but dont understand sum of it... when i first power it up it shows 8.0.3.0.0.1. ithen another problem is that i do test 4 and the hopper moves but doesnt payout count to ten like supposed to, then shows error 32 which is empty hopper right? well there IS coins in there i got it to count 1 one time, but thats it.. then same error... besides this everything else seems to be working... oh another thing is the jackpot display, how do i set it? it just has zeros... and another thing is the test 6 it shows 5.6.8.2.8.8. the 568 is the game right? and the 2.8.8. is what?
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 20, 2009, 11:16:56 PM slow down. did you do as I asked - remove the reel mech etc? you seem to be mind set to go straight ahead and not stopping. never mind all the tests - you need to get to the starting point either 50 000 or 71 000.. you said something about reels spinning and stopping - but "NOT WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO?" with the hopper - are you sure the hopper is the correct coinage? you say it has coins in it and spins but no coins come out.
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 21, 2009, 12:10:46 AM yes sir i did remove the reel mech.. thats how i found the wire that was cut... yes it reads 50 000... but i have no key to close it... or jackpot key... where can i get these? about the reels... i play it on test 8 but sumtimes it'll let me play on test 8 for a couple of pulls but then after a while it wont accept coins... and about them stoppin, when i play on test 8 and i win sumthing the reels dont match up to what i win... like for example a when a cherry lands on first reel it wins 2 coins, but the first reel wont be a cherry it'll be sumthing else but it'll say i won 2 coins... and another thing is it supposed to payout the 2 coins on test 8?? cuz it dont... and about the hopper it takes 1 dollar slugs i dont know if the ones i got go to it but they are just metal slugs with $1.00 etched on them, i got them with the machine... yeah it spins on test 4 but wont count up to ten like supposed to... and another thing everytime i push the reset button it shows a 6 on the far right for a second, no matter what test im on after pushing reset...
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 21, 2009, 08:59:10 AM okay - now i am with you - the broken wire was on the reel mech harness? what color was that wire?
as for the misalignment - there can be various reasons - wrong game prom (p1 on the mpu) - mis aligned reel strips - bad reel reader (which may be the culprit). If the machine runs - then won't accept any coining again - that is usually a sign of a bad reel reader (those are the boards in between each reel). This is a single line game correct? not a 3 or 5 liner. Also when you are running in 8 test - you are leaving the door open and using the coin switch? to see if your strips are lined up - move each reel so that the 7 at the top of each strip is on the payline - move the reel NOT the reel strip. you can move the reel my holding the reel stop lever at the back of each reel away so you can move the reel. once the reels are set at 777 - do a 5 test - win meter should read 1555. if not then your strips are out of alignment. Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 21, 2009, 03:11:19 PM THE WIRE WAS BLACK WITH ORANGE STRIPES ON THE J3 BOARD... AND NO ITS A 3 LINE WITH PROGRESSIVE JACKPOT, YES WHEN RUNNING ON TEST 8 I AM LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN AND USING THE COIN SWITCH, BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF RUNS IT STOPS ACCEPTING COINS AND I HAVE TO RESET AND PUT BACK ON TEST 8 TO KEEP PLAYING ON TEST 8... ALIGNING THE REELS, I ALIGNED THEM TO 777 BUT ON TEST 5 IT SHOWS 1404 WITH THE ZERO BEING HALF A ZERO...
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 21, 2009, 04:45:16 PM you have a bad reel reader - what is happening - when the reader fails the game stops - therefore it will not accept coins. to find out which reader is failing - lock and close the door. play one coin -if it tilts it will give you a 41 42 or 43 error - which indicates which reader is failing. if it did not tilt you will get a " 1 000" . if you are still showing 50 000 or 71 000 then the door is not closed. If your machine has a light tower on top the white light will be on when the door is open - off when the door is locked and closed properly. if you get the 41 - you can switch readers - that is move the left most reader to the right and right to the left. (you have to take the reels out of the reel mech to make it easier) . after the move - restart as indicated above - if you get a tilt code 43 then the reader you started with is bad. if you are still getting 41 then you may have door closure issue.
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 21, 2009, 05:58:10 PM WELL I DONT HAVE THE KEYS TO CLOSE IT PROPERLY... IS THERE A WAY OF BYPASSING THE DOOR LOCK? I TOOK OFF THE LOCK... BUT DONT KNOW WHERE ALL THE SWITCHES ARE TO "TRICK" THE SLOT SO IT THINKS THE DOOR IS CLOSED.. HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM? WHERE CAN I BUY THE KEYS FOR THE MACHINE? THE LOCK KEY, AND THE JACKPOT KEY... IF YOU NEED PICS I CAN POST JUST ASK.... THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR HELPING ME!
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 21, 2009, 06:03:00 PM i sell the lock etc - you really do not need the lock to fix the machine - does your machine have the light tower I indicated in prior response? did you do the steps I asked.
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: PHILLY PHIL on August 21, 2009, 06:21:18 PM YEAH IT DOES HAVE A LIGHT TOWER ... BUT I CANT DO THE STEPS CUZ THE DOOR WONT CLOSE PROPERLY WITHOUT A LOCK... I SHUT IT BUT THE WHITE LIGHT WONT TURN OFF... HOW MUCH YOU SELL THE LOCKS FOR? SO I DONT NEED A LOCK TO FIX THE MACHINE? HOW DO I DO THAT IF I CANT CLOSE THE DOOR TO DO THE STEPS YOU TOLD ME TO DO.... PLUS ANOTHER THING I JUST NOTICED, I THINK ITS MISSING THE PLATE THAT GOES WHERE THE COINS FALL AND EITHER GO TO THE TRAY (ON THE RIGHT) OR TO THE PART WHERE THE COIN SWITCH IS (ON THE LEFT)... WITHOUT IT THE COINS JUS FALL IN EITHER OF THE TWO SLOTS OR JUST BOUNCE OFF AND FALL INSIDE THE MACHINE...
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on August 21, 2009, 09:28:04 PM The lock is not needed - there is a micro switch near the lock and one at the rear of the door hinge (lower) that control the door closed condition - I cannot continue at this point as I am away and have limited computer access - so you are going to have to wait at this point or if someone else can chime in

Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: rl41h9 on March 29, 2013, 06:51:36 PM Thanks Barry, for what you have posted.
I'm new here and will try some of your tips to get a machine I'm working on to come to life. I have a code 50 showing when the door is closed, but I can't get the machine to operate the handle relay after coins are put in. If I have the code 50 will it go away when the door is closed? Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: rl41h9 on March 29, 2013, 06:56:14 PM Hey, would a dead battery on the cpu board affect the function of the game? If so what is the voltage of the board.
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: tkrozleski on March 29, 2013, 08:01:13 PM Change the battery. It's a 3.6 volt Nicad.
Make sure the handle release coil and linkage works freely. Lubricate it and manual move the linkage assembly. The plunger in the coil and the other release mechanism parts can gum up from old aged grease and not allow the handle to work. The code 50 000 will change after the reels spin. You can do a test "2" to see if the coil energizes and pulls the the handle release mechanism. Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: rl41h9 on March 29, 2013, 11:41:56 PM This machine only gets used once a year as it belongs to the local small town Fire Department and they only use it at fund raising events.
The fire department has owned it for about 10 years and everyone with a screw driver has been in it. Who knows what's been done. First off, it looks like someone who knew something worked on it in the very beginning. There's evidence of modifications present, but the machine used to work fine. So I'm going to assume the mods are not the problem. I did a number 2 test and the handle coil does not energize.. With the door closed, it shows a 50 code, when coins are dropped, it still shows 50, the sound board makes a bell noise when the coins fall, but I'm not sure the coin mech is working correctly. I'm fairly good with slot machines, but just haven't had experience with coins. I've only worked on tito machines. The fire department wants to use this machine the first weekend in April for an event, so I'm trying to help them out. Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: Amachanic on March 30, 2013, 12:43:57 AM If the machine has been sitting I would start by checking all your main board connections. Check the power supply plug behind the hopper. That plug causes more problems. One other thing, how cold is the room the machines in? I have found these E-Series Ballys don't like to work if they are too cold. I have one that does work right if its not at least 68 degrees. One other thing I would check are the voltages at the test points on the power supply board. You should have 5V 7.5V & 10V on those loops. One other quick check is the cords condition since it comes out the bottom of these machines, and the fuses. Keep us posted, we'll get yea going again.
Gary Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: rl41h9 on March 30, 2013, 11:39:48 AM I'll try to get to the machine later today. I worked 3rd shift last night and need to catch some sleep.
The fuses all looked good, I did check the voltage in a couple of places and found 10 volts. I also unhooked all the plugs from the boards and reattached them to make sure they were getting good contact. What voltage do the solenoids work at? I'd like to check to see if they are getting what they're suppose to be getting. If they are, it would tell me if I have a bad solenoid. Again, should the code 50 show after the door is closed, is it suppose to go away after a coin is dropped? This knowledge would help me to diagnose the coin drop(comparator). I haven't seen the hopper turn yet. I would have thought it might do a reset spin if the door is closed or after a restart. I've located the door switch in the hinge, but have not located any other door switches at this time. When I look at it today, I plan to try and do a test 8, (operate the machine with the door open) and see if this gives me some worthwhile info. Thanks for any help given. Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: Amachanic on March 30, 2013, 12:08:17 PM The code 50 is normal and will go away once the first spin starts. Try test 4 to run the hopper. It should run and kick out 10 coins.
Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: tkrozleski on March 30, 2013, 12:14:33 PM With the door open you will have a tower light on. When you close the door the light should turn off.
The code 50 000 will stay there after the door is closed and change only after the handle is pulled and the reels spin. It will change to how ever many coins you dropped and how many you win. It does not change when coins are dropped. Example to what it will show after one coin is dropped and handle pulled and no wins= 1 000 This is showing 1 coin was dropped and 000 won. Have you pushed the reset on the hopper board and closed the door? Does the "coin accepted" light come on when you drop a coin? The other door switch, if it is still there, is by the door lock. It should be a closed contact. Or it might be removed and the wires tied together as this is what it should be. Where does the coin go when you drop it ? to the hopper inside ? Title: Re: BALLY SERIES E 2284 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!! Post by: rl41h9 on March 30, 2013, 09:20:41 PM Hey everyone, thanks for your help. The machine is working now.
A little chrome polish and a couple of bulbs and the Fire department will be able to use it next weekend. I found a few things wrong but the big problem was the fuse holder for the 10v was broken inside. Once I found that, the bells and whistles started working. Again, The Fire department thanks you all.
