Title: 61-1 Won't Clear s+ DD 3CM
Post by: reho33 on September 04, 2009, 02:31:56 AM
Well I received a new game chip, placed my clear chip on the motherboard, followed procedure, then put my game chip back in. Got 61 error hit reset button and got 61-1. I do not have door optics just a straight through cable with connectors to "open" and "close" the door, this always worked when I played the game before. So I reattached the connector to simulate closing the door and turned the jackpot rest key once, nothing. Used a VOM to check the connector and wires, tested good. Tried this procedure several times and even put my own game chip back in, no change. I think that I will need an new set of door optics as maybe the straight through cable will not let the CPU "see" a proper door closure or maybe I have blown something by connecting straight through. My problem with the original door optics is that they never lined up correctly no matter what I did. So now I guess I am stuck unless I can clear the 61-1 and that won't happen until the proper door optics are installed again. So what to do?

If you still have the old optics you could always just tape them together or use heat shrink if you want to get fancy... and not put them on the door. Its sort of like your straight through cable but with a bump in the middle.

Wiring them straight on doesn't work since each is a transistor and it wants to receive the encoded pulses. Its a security measure. I doubt that you have blown anything.

Hello Reho.

Had the exact same problem a while back. Was upgrading my base SW and could not clear the 61-1. You will need to get a set of original optics to clear the tilt. For some reason the optic modification works during normal game play not to clear a 61-1. (Have not figured out why yet) if your optic mod is the same as mine you are feeding the output pulse from the tx optic to the input pulse of the rx optic. Bear in mind that this modification bypasses the signal return wir on both sides. All additional door switches are wired in series with this wire (Bill door, bill acess door, on a slanttop the bottom acess door).
What i am getting at is that you may have problems you are not aware of until you replace the optics. Let us know what happens either way.

Regards
Ian

Thanks guys for your help. Yep, it just sits there dead as a doornail on 61-1. I am ordering a set of optics today but no play untill they arrive :60-

UPDATE: I read something on the forum here about grounding the low side of the circut on the door optics. So I tried it and it works. I still ordered a new set of optics to install but now I can play with the machine as it is. Thanks for all your help.

"grounding the low side"...
Hmm..., reho33, can you clarify that more for us?

I'm guessing (As I don't have an S+ to play with at the moment) that you mean
the Black wires on both the door emitter and the cabinet receiver are
being physically grounded directly to the machine?

While the other 2 wires ( Red   for the door emitter
and White for the cabinet receiver ) are just "open" circuits?

Your detailed findings to  "think"  ( or "fool" ) the MPU to "think"
into seeing that the door is "Closed" would be fantastic! :89-

Better yet, can you post a couple of pictures
showing us exactly how you're "grounding the low side"? :91-

What I did was just take the frame side ground and mated it to the hot side on the door leaving the other 2 dangling and somehow it fooled the cpu into thinking the door was closed. Some post on here, I don't know where, said to do something similar and I might get a reel tilt error also as a result of it. Well I did get the reel tilt error and cleared the whole thing. Plays nice now. I even reinstalled the handle lockout solenoid after putting some rubber shelf material on the surfaces that "clack". Now the handle locks out and instead of a sharp bang now I get a muffled "click"....sounds good. Anyway the nice lady at Slot Machines Unlimited, April, is sending new door optics and told me to use double sided tape to make the door optics "go lower" because my door is sagging a bit and could not get the 2 optics to meetup for anything. So this S+ is well on it's way to being cleaned up, still have 2 clean and vacuum the insides as the machine was bought 9 yrs ago from a private vendor who just may not have done anything to it at all. So thanks NLG forum and K+ all around.
