Title: IGT S+ 61 code wont reset
Post by: pinballfixer2 on September 06, 2009, 11:37:09 PM
This one is driving me crazy! I have an IGT S+ Triple dollars slot. Had 61 error, replaced the battery, installed board held test switch for 3 seconds like normal reset procedure, but instead of going to 61-1 then closing door as I usually do, this one blinks breifly and stays on 61. So now I take this board and put it into a working 10 times pay, get the 61 code, and I am able to reset it just fine. Game works. Take it back out of the trn times pay and put it into the triple dollars....back to 61 error and wont reset. I even moved the reels  and board from the ten times pay working machine and....... 61 error, wont clear. any time I put either board in the working game, I get the 61 error back then reset it and they work fine in that cabinet???? What the #@%% am I missing??? Shifted all component one at a time , hopper , board, reels, coin mech....all work in the good machine. Looking for a wiring problem? slight differences in the harness, but all seems intact??? Help!!!
Tom

Try a ram clear chip...ended my nightmare..might work for you, but won't hurt

I just had this exact same issue. Bought a ram clear chip & works perfectly now.  Good luck.

I'll add my voice to the Ram clear suggestion. It's likely that the data on the EEPROM on the motherboard is corrupted, and a full clear is the best way to remedy that.

One can sometimes accomplish the goal by changing between radically different game chips -- like from a SP731 to an SP1271 or back, as these chips have different bookkeeping structures. This forces the computer to change the format of the data on the EEPROM. But it's hit or miss.

I would be thinking that way if I didn't have a 2nd machine that will always reset either board when it is intalled they use the same SP chip. They both work fine in the one machine with either set of reels, so obviosly they reset fine and work fine??? Still stumped???

The EEPROM isn't on that board (called the MPU). It's on the motherboard -- the small board fixed in the machine that you're plugging the MPU board(s) into. If the data is corrupted you can plug in as many different MPU boards as you've got and it won't re-format that chip. I can't guarantee that this is your issue; it may be something else. I can only tell you that failed MPU board swapping doesn't eliminate a corrupted EEPROM as the cause.

Ahh, that explains it, I didn't see another chip on that board. But EEPROM is not a ram. Had me confused. How do I do the full reset? Do I need another chip fort that and who has it if so?
Thanks!!

You need a ram clear chip, or called a clear chip or 123 ram chip, various names same result. Just state you need one here and the vendors will contact you. Easy to use, put in place of the game chip fire up machine and follow instructions, only takes a few minutes.

Yes, it will count to 256 then 999, then you are done, power off and then reinstall your game chip, follow procedures.

I found the EEPROM on the motherboard, I assume I don't have to replace it, tha ram clear chip must reprogram it. So If some one has it, give me a shout.
Thanks,  Tom

I'm still not 100% sure , I think I'll try the ram clear first, But I might need an EEPROM, I'll be calling someone today , thanks!
