Title: IGT S_PLUS ERROR CODE 61-1 problem
Post by: ucanwin on September 07, 2009, 03:44:08 PM
I have an IGT RED WHITE & BLUE WILD S-Plus slot with an error code problem. The machine was working great a month ago. It stood for a month out in the garage without being turned on, and when I fired it up, it would not accept a coin, although, it had the insert coin light showing. I opened and closed the door, still wouldn't accept coins. I thought maybe the coin in the coin comparator was not seated properly, so I checked that out. Then, I thought that maybe the contacts on the board were presenting a problem, so I shut down the machine and removed and reseated the board. I powered it up and then got an error code 3100. I was unable to reset the machine and then I used a ram clear chip to try to resolve the problem. With the ram clear chip installed, I pressed the Spin button and waited for the 999 to show up on the readout. With that done, I shut the machine down, removed the ram clear chip and replaced the game prom. I fired up the machine, and now had the 61 code. Then I pressed the self test button once, and now it showed the 61-1 code. I then closed the door and turned the reset key, but nothing happens. I am not able to get the 65-1 code. I know that the reset works as far as being able to do other selections with it. The battery has been recently replaced as well as the door optics (which worked fine when the machine was last run a month ago. The machine has not been moved , so I doubt whether the optics are out of alignment. So.....What am I doing wrong????? Any ideas, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Jerry

Considering all that you've done, I'm guessing that you checked the dbv connections, reseated the cash box and checked cash (drop) door to be sure that everything was well seated and that the cash door switch was closed, but I thought that I'd suggest it, just in case.

When you get the 65-1 just open the door press the reset again and close the door and it will clear.

if the BV is missing the stacker - and the bill head connectors are pulled - are the BV door switches still active?  meaning - you can't do a door close to clear most errors??

Hi,
Thanks for all the suggestions. Not sure what all the terminology is. I am not all that familiar with technical terms and abbreviations so I am still at a loss.
I think what was suggested was to reseat the hopper for one thing. I have done that. The bill acceptor cycles when the machine is turned on.
I was reading an earlier person's problem similar to mine and it was suggested that the hot optic wire be shorted to the frame. Well, I tried that, and got lots of readouts. I then turned the reset key numerous times and eventually, it came up with the 65-1 code that I was looking for. I then reconnected the optic wires and pressed the self test button and after a pause, the reels cycled and the machine came up ready to play. It said insert coin, but once again, the coins just fell through. I shut the machine down and took the coin acceptor out to check for any obstructions and reseated the sample coin. Then I turned the machine on and up came the same problem that I encounter way back in the beginning. The dreaded 3100 code. I tried the coin comparator in another machine, and it works fine. The machine never did run, so it couldn't have paid out an extra coin. So......back to the drawing boards, I guess.

The 3100 is a hopper error so nothing to do with your comparitor.

The extra coin issue is generally related to the hopper brake.
If you pull the hopper on the back of the hopper is a small spring.

When the machine is paying out it simply extends a solinoid and runs the hopper motor.
As coins pass the hopper optic they are counted. Once the correct number are achived the motor is shut off and the solinoid released.
If the spring is not in place to pull the brake back into place the wheel continues to spin just from momentum and an extra coin is counted.

This does not mean a coin will necessarily will be paid out as the optic is usually at the back of the hopper but it is counted and as such it errors.

Since it sounds like you have a second machine try swapping hoppers.

It could also be a bad hopper optic.....but the brake is usually the cause.

If the machine is an IGT S Plusit will not matter if it even has a cash box or the bv is even working. That code is insignifacant to any problems there. You need to open the door and push the self test button once more and oit should clear. I notice someone else suggested this earlier in the tread. Did you rtry that then?
Good Luck

The 61-1 code is what I get after doing the ram clear and then pressing the self test button. Beyond that....... the reset does not do anything, and opening and closing the door does nothing. I somehow, was able to get the 65-1 code by shorting the hot optic wire to the frame. Eventually, I got the insert coin light on. But when a coin iwas inserted, it just drops through to the coin tray. The coin comparator works fine in another machine. I then shut the machine down and restarted it....now there's a 21 code. It just doesn't make any sense. Yesterday, I got a 3100 code, and the machine never even ran after the ram clear. I tried putting a different hopper in because of that code....couldn't get that to clear without doing another ram clear. All this trouble, and the machine was working great a month ago, but after standing for that period of time, it went nuts! Pressing the self test button after the 61-1 comes up does nothing.

Are you sure the door for that covers the cash box is closed all the way? If taht micro switch is not depressed fully it will seem like the optics are not working

I have run across that problem and found it was the door optic the way i found it is when I tried to clear the 61-1 it would not clear and i was getting all kind of errors out of frustration i slamed the door and 61-1 would clear if i just closed door it would not clear. I wold have never looked at door optic because the machine came up with the 42 and 43 and 3100 errors    Just something to look at

It sounds like the machine isn't seeing the door as closed.  If you're able to get to the 61-1, all you normally would do is close the door, then turn the reset key.  If the machine isn't seeing the door closed, it won't go past that.

I know you said that you recently replaced them, but at this point you should test the door optics.  Are you able to get into the test to check that they're working properly?
