Title: I'll take that challenge Post by: dogwrangler on September 28, 2009, 01:03:52 PM I would be happy to toss in my ideas and experience in debug and repair. First, I have to say I am new to this forum and don't yet have a machine to tinker with. However, I have spent years (decades) in computer design, test, and debug (can't help much with the relay / logic based machines). I have looked over some of the schematics for the IGT 2000(?), but not in great detail yet.
Just to get the ideas going. Has anyone tried burning a "test program" eprom to replace the existing game / program (not sure of the common term) eprom in the system? I have read the IGT comes with some form of self test, but am guessing this is not sufficient for folks to debug what the issue is. A special test prom could tell the computer to do some very basic steps like slowly walk through each address and data line so you could see them change with a volt meter. What kind of test equipment do folks have (light bulb, volt meter, scope, ICE)? What are some common symptoms / issues do you see? This is a fun group and I hope I can contribute. Cheers, -Greg |
