Title: Multimeter to check for data?
Post by: SAT (aka GANDHI) on September 30, 2008, 09:49:21 PM
Hi,

I'm trying to send data from an MSDOS application down an RS232 lead to an LED display.

Can I use a mutlimeter to check the presence of data down the cable?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

That would be difficult to do since the data switches values faster than most meters will pick up.

Grab an RS-232 "breakout box" with LED and you'll see the LEDs flicker when the data is flowing.

Thanks Channel.

I've googled those and I see what you mean.

I'll get shopping.

Cheers.
