Title: Williams Tilt Code
Post by: dale on September 30, 2009, 01:43:26 AM
Tonight in the middle of a Stampede my Williams 40S5 made a Tilt code. The Dotmation screen looked like this:

                                                           Bad Frame Index!
                                                           9xFFCA

The LED display read: CREDITS - dot,    WIN METER- Frann,     BET- 0

I opened and closed the door and it did not clear. I then opened the door and turned the power off then back on again. I closed the door and it cleared and resumed playing the Stampede. Can anyone tell me what caused this as it is not in the manual.  :103-Thanks in advance. :131-

Pure speculation, but my guess is that the machine was calling for a "frame" of Dotmation 'video' (ie. a particular single image to be displayed on the screen) that didn't load or didn't exist on the chip(s).  The LED display was echoing the error displayed in more detail on the Dotmation screen -- since it can't make an "m" with a single digit, I think it was saying, "DOT FRAM", or that there was a Dotmation error of the "frame" variety.

Bottom line, you shouldn't get that at home or in the casino.  Have you had a stampede before on that machine?  Did you hit something unique during this stampede that you haven't previously hit?

If you're bored, you may want to see if the checksums on your chips match the checksums printed on the labels.  Personally I'd wait until (and "if") it happens again and for the moment write it off as a one-time glitch.

This happens when the main computer calls for an animation from
the DOT computer (via the serial cable), and the DOT answers
back "i can't find that animation."  Or the DOT computer tries
to call for an animation and for some reason the DOT computer
can't do it.

So bottom line is one of these problem.
1. bad DOT roms. always run 5.13 or later OS software too.
2. bad DOT board. it happens, and it's more common than
you may think.
3. bad serial cable. that would be pretty rare.
4. mis-match in ROM software. that is the main CPU
and DOT cpu ROMs are different versions. (if the game
had been working fine for years, than this is not the problem.
but if you just did a game change it could be an issue.)
5. DOT eprom speed too slow.

Thanks for the information. Would anybody have a comprehensive list of all the Tilt Codes, reasons they come up and how to fix them?  The manual does not have all the codes that come up. Thanks in advance.

BTW Clay, I believe I have version 5.14. At least that is the version on start up.
