clown   For what it's worth, both Statfreak and myself destroyed some eproms using this William programmer. I think he threw his away and I still have mine, if any one wants it I'll give it to you. I do have the CD if you need it. Buzz

I have one of these. Mine is the enhanced duel powered Willem. I never had a problem. XP, ac power, printer port. Never tried it with usb, as the other worked the first and every time I used it. However, now use GQ-X3 with vista, as my XP system died. Since it was you and Statfreak, operator error can be rulled out?

]Richard     I can't speak for David but I can F/ U   a anvil with a rubber hammer.  Why do you think I have a eraser that holds 50 chips at a time!!  I have a old Chip Master but it's set up for Windows 98 ( no up grade av. ) and just bought a Batronix BX40. The new one works OK I wanted one that was a no brainier to use and that's what I found, USB powered and chip auto identify. The only chip I have found that it won't auto identify is a M27C4002 ( the only 40 pin I use ) still a no brainier.  It was a little over $300 with shipping from Germany, I think they are selling them on ebay now for the same price.

I prefer a hand sledge, just for the noise.

You can add RickHunter to the list of those who have lost chips to that beast. The problem is that it has a nasty habit of sending write voltage out to 512k chips during supposedly passive READS. Do yourself a favor and buy a decent chip reader/burner. If you need something inexpensive, I can recommend the GQ-4X. I've had it for some time now and have had no issues with it; just don't expect to get the features of a $300 burner.

It will not automatically read the type of chip that you have inserted. You must manually select the correct chip in a software menu (there are no jumpers and the unit is enclosed).
The number of chips is limited when compared to more expensive burners, but it will read all of the slot machine chips that you are likely to come across.
You will not get much in the way of updates and tech support is essentially non-existent (there is a forum on their website) -- but then, I've never had a problem with mine.

Here are a couple of links of prior discussion on the subject.
