Title: Free Antivirus/Malware from Microsoft
Post by: rickhunter on October 14, 2009, 07:34:16 PM
For those of you who don't know, Microsoft has released a Free antivirus/malware add-on to windows XP/Vista.  I have installed it on 3 machines and various testing have yielded good results.  So if you don't have an up-to-date virus subscription, this is a good alternative.  It also has a small footprint as far as resources so it won't bog down your machine like some versions of Norton did in the past (since fixed from versions 2009 and newer)

I hope it's better than the free AVG software. My wife's PC had that on it and she had some jackass from Estonia remote controlling her PC.

It took me an evening to clean it up and save all her data. She had to change every password on every online system - email, banking, forums, etc... Better safe than sorry.

After that I paid for the Trend Micro Internet Security Suite software. It works and is lightweight on resources.

Thanks for the info, Rick.  My better half's computer is lacking anti-virus software on it right now, and it'll be good to have some that doesn't bog down the system.
