 :99-   I have an IGT S2000 that has the error "Display's netplex link is down" on it. I have replaced the following parts- Display, display board, ribbon cable to the display, all the I/O cards, the MPU board, the motherboard, and checked the wires from the motherboard to the display for breaks. Cannot seem to get it to clear. Can anyone think of something I may have overlooked? Can anyone tell me what the most part of the games causes this error? I am at my wits end with this one. Any help with this would be really great. I hate not being able to fix something.   :103-

I am not an expert at this but here are a couple of notes I have:

I have had this a few times and it has always been the power supply behind the reels not seated properly.

Also on an S2000 the netplex components are your Bill Validator, Thermal Printer, VFD, 7 Seg, and Spectrum Display.  a problem with either of these can take netplex down.
that being said, probably 95% of out 'netplex link down' errors in the past 3 years have been due to the DC switching power supply behind the reels.  we have been repairing them for probably 2 years by shot gunning electrolytic caps with a 85-90% repair rate."

r273 is correct. I've had a 100% rate of the power supply being the problem. Hope this helps.

Sometimes its just because the power supply behind the reels is just not seated completely as well, possibly being loosened during shipping or being moved. I would reseat it and see if that works first, no $$$.

Add my vote on the power supply. Also check the netplex/power distro board on the back wall as all the netplex comm goes thru it.The comment about ANYTHING plugged into the netplex taking down the entire netplex buss is VERY correct.
If your Display says "Netplex Down" the DISPLAY is working correctly.
Last but not least.....backplane board and I do have some spare S2000 backplanes.
Make sure the cable is in seated properly in the backplane connector, that it goes to the distro board and the printer and other stuff are plugged in up there.
I had a machine (Bucks Ahoy) that gave me fits with the dreaded "COMM DOWN" on the display, was a bad solder on that netplex distro board....

What do you mean by "shot gunning electrolytic caps"?
Do you mean simply replacing the caps with new ones or
are you doing something else to the capacitors?

I think what he means......

"Shot-Gunning" I.E.= the art of replacing CHEAP components and saving EXPENSIVE/VALUABLE time by doing so.
I do the same really. If I go into a supply (I did this one a Spectrum Analyzer I bought) and replace ONE failed Electrolytic cap...chances are others will fail sometime soon. With such caps costing upwards of $2.00 each...changing half a dozen of them NOW and not having to screw with it later is cheap money.
The Avcomm-031 Spectrum Analyzer i bought had a shorted tantalum cap, a 10Mfd/16volt. It had about 12 of them scattered around the mainboard so I changed ALL of them. They cost me 50 cents each and i had to rip out the mainboard only once. It's been 2 years...zero trouble now. i paid $5 for it! garage sale from a retired satellite tech that didnt want to bother repairing it.
Unless this stuff has been on fire or under water..you can usually repair it.......

Changed out the power supply behind the reels, Now the machine no longer says displays netplex link is down, the 7seg display is showing "no disp". the vfd displays the message "display passes self test" but then goes blank. I don't know if I mentioned this before but this is not a standard 960 s2000, it has a 4400 board? the plugs are the same size as the old S+. Not sure exactly what model the board is. One more question, are the power supplies between these games different for reels than video? the model number of the power supply from the reel game is the same as the one we use in our bartop gamekings. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. The comm lights on the vfd display board are now showing communication which they were not before.

Sounds like its looking for a vision display to answer it. Was this in a Vision game before?

Was the replacement power supply you installed a verified known working power supply?  a No dISP message can also be caused by a defective power supply.

I have had all those error's and pulled my hair out and most of the time it is a loose power supply behind reels. The worst one was a bad credit in coins played display the last thing I thought would go bad. if you have more than 1 machine start with 1 part at a time and swap it until the error follows to the other machine.  Good luck I'm sure you will figure it out.

I have had that error ( no disp) on a couple of my machines. One was a bad billacceptor the other one was the printer. Try disconnecting one at a time to isolate the problem

Power supply that was tried in the game was out of a working game so I believe it was good. I tried disconnecting the printer and the bill validator to elimninate those possibilities. As it turns out the motherboard that was installed as a replacement had the same problem as the original bad motherboard, took one out of a known working game and the error cleared and the game came back up. Thanks to all for your suggestions and advice.
