Title: How to change the marquee display between the speakers?
Post by: SK8US on November 25, 2009, 01:43:08 AM
I was wondering on how to change the marquee display between the speakers? Currently it has Insert 1-5s-10s-20s-etc and Sheala you are a member of the high rollers club. I would prefer to take Shela out and put my name in.
Thanks,
Scott

What does Sheala look like perhaps others would like to take her out too.....  :72-

Do you know what kind of Marquee it is ? if its a Mikohn then the info comes from a controller and you need PSP software on a laptop to modify.
It could also be a player tracking panel and the info was fed in from a master computer.... which is probably no longer there.
Others have taken a device called a Mastercom - which is a different type of player tracking and modified the contents of the eprom.

A picture would go a long way to helping us figure out what kind of display it is and helping you "take out" Sheala.

Do I need to remove one picture? Is there a two pic limit?

Yup. 2 pic limit.

See that blue label in your first pic? That's probably the interesting one, if there's nothing behind the top glass...

That I believe is just the display and the wires go down to the black box in the second picture

Check the past threads, I think Railraod94 and r273 both had threads about modifying Mastercom 250 eproms to dispaly different messages.  :89-

Yup, and if we can identify which PT system it is, there may be someone on here that knows how to hack the system so he can make it say what he wants. :89- :89-

I've done this also, but that doesn't look like a Bally system. Need a better pic to identify it...

What should I take a picture of? I will take a better picture of the black box or behind the marquee?
Thanks,

That is the IGS System, the black box being known as the 'PT95A'.  It is the SMIB (slot machine interface board) that communicates between the game and the system.  IGS (Integrated Gaming Systems) is IGT's successor to the 'Smart' System of yore, and the predecessor to its current 'Advantage' System, which they bought from Acres and have morphed it into what it is today....

Thanks, Simon.

Got any info on where in the board the welcome message is stored? Is it e/eprom-based?

Title: Re: How to change the marquee display between the speakers?

The black box has a model number PT95A I haven't opened it yet to see if Sheila is in there but going through all the chips that came with the purchase I do see welcome Sheila on some chips so my guess is these can be programed on one of these chips to say what ever you want? Or thats from the old system? I have an extra one in the garage so maybe I'll open it up to see what (who) might be inside.
Thanks,
 Scott
Let me know if you need more info.

I opened my extra one up and this one had a MGM chip so I guess ??? I don't know ??? But somehow rewrite the chip? I don't know if these have a software program inside the chip or whats inside ???? Does anybody write these??? Scott

Depending on what you have......
You would read the contents of the chip using a Eprom Burner (usb connected, with supplied software)
Secondly you would edit the Hex bytes using the supplied editor, then write back out to a blank chip.

I did it --- I got rid of Sheila, my wife wont be suspicious now when I go into the game room. I swapped out the chips, now it says accepting 1s 5s, etc. I would like to edit it though. So where would I get the software? I would use my laptop and plug into the black box? Or do I take the chip out and put into some kind of reader?

Sheila gone but not forgotten.     As Jay said you need to get the chip in a reader and see if you can edit in some of your info.
Not knowing that type of unit but a guess on the chip might be a 29F040 maybe?

Not sure about chip types but its a 24 pin chip like a S+ game chip. Scott

it would good if you under the sticker paper that's stuck to the top if and
see what is written directly upon the chip.
This information should tell you three things:

make  >>>( ST, AM,TMS, etc, etc...)
size    >>>(64, 128, 256, 512, 1meg, etc, etc...)
speed>>>(ns)

Be sure to cover up the round glass with the sticker paper after you jot down the numbers.
I think most S+'s have 28-pins for the SS and SP chip sockets.

Just give the part number (should be a string like 27C512 or 27c4001, the last 4 numbers will vary due to size and format), the size may not be on the chip.

Hi, It looks like
AM27C512
-90DC
0127??DE
@ 1986 AMD

This is Sheilas chip. Hard to read

To attempt to change it, you'll need an eprom burner and a UV eraser. The eraser and burner together will be $125 for inexpensive ones, you can search for "eprom burner" on this site for models and prices. You also may find a thread or 2 on how to find and edit that message.

The 27C512 is a 512k eprom, the -90DC means it's a 90ms access speed. This is a very common eprom and supported by virtually all eprom burners.

Welcome to the modification addiction! :72- :72-  :136- :wa :136-

Where did you get the replacement NON Sheila version of the chip ?

Incidently you could explain that this is an Austrailan machine ..... and that Sheila is a generic name for any girl ...... FiddleFarter (Sharron) can chime in here anytime now.....

I have an extra black box that read MGM on its chip so I exchanged them now Sheila is gone. I put Sheila in the extra box.
Thanks for explaining it all for me. Scott
