I'm working on my PE machine...which I have not seen work yet.  I know I have a monitor problem is it possible to replace the Ceronix monitor with a computer CRT?  I would think so but have no idea how.  Has anyone done this?

PE+ uses GGA. Would assume that PE is the same. Also the timing on the video signal is not standard so you would need a monitor designed specifically for that machine. Dont think that Ceronix makes the CRT anymore - I saw the other day that they are now offering LCD replacements for the PE+. Not sure about PE. Alternatively you could try any of the vendors links above for a replacement. If you are electronically savvy (Identify components and solder) there is also a lot of information on monitor repairs and you could try and repair it yourself.

You were reading my mind.  I was thinking about putting an LCD monitor into my machine so I'm not always looking at the burnin on the CRT.  First I was going to try and wire up this free monitor I got from Craigslist.  If I get this going I will post the wiring and any circuit designs I built.  Thanks for getting back to me so soon.

Regardless if you are using a LCD or CRT the output signal from the machine is a non standard CGA signal (For PE+ , PE will probably be the same - may be an even older signal type. If you have manuals check up on this)  Most modern LCD's and CRT's are VGA  so wont work on this machine.
There was a guy on the old site from south america that was selling a convertor board that enables you to use a standard LCD on a PE+.

The LCD replacement from Ceronix is pricey and was developed for PE+ - $451

Best bet is prabably to try and source a working display from one of the vendors here or try and fix the CRT

PS - Check of the back of the CRT chassis for a CPAxxxx number. If it is on there you can determine what signal input type you are dealing with.

One of the short timers built his own inline device with a single chip. He took the 5v from the monitor and the 3 wires that comprised the RGB signal and feed it into what I believe was called a Hex Inverter chip.
When I say fed I think he soldered to each of the pins. I didn't get the chip number but he says these come in various sizes .... I think the chip he used had 8 pins. 2 would be power then 3 data in, 3 data out and then he stuffed the whole thing into peice of heat shrink tube. It appeared so easy and if you ddn't know that it was inline you would think it was meant to be. When he was done it worked with a regular monitor.

I am no electronics specialist so perhaps a few of the other chaps with more tech savy can comment on this.

I also Have problems with a PE+ CRT. Let me know If you get an LCD replacement to work.

I just got a quote for this from the UK Ceronix supplier, comes in at $989, if anyone else does get a better solution that can port over here too I'm interested as well.
