My cooling fan in the the top box is really loud.
What type of resistor can I solder onto the power line to the fan to help slow it down a bit.
It's so fast that it whines. (It's brand new)
The fan is labelled:   BALL  29/24W   110V  100-125VAC   50/60Hz
In the interests of conserving a little electricty -  I'd like it to run at, say... 24 watts? :103-
I tried putting a light dimmer on it but I'm worried about safety and fire.
I took it off.

Why would you need a fan in the top box in an S+.  All you have is a flourescent ballast in there, unless you have a progressive display, which in of itself should not require active cooling?  I don't have any fans in either of my S+'s.

I should have said that the S+ is a "barcrest" version.
The three flourescents really generate a lot of heat inside this machine.
There's one in the top box, one over the reels and, one behind the belly glass.
It gets so warm that, when the fan is not on, the button panel is very warm to the touch.
I'm sure that cant be good for all the plastics inside.
They will get all brittle and crack from the heat.
I bought a new fan that goes into the top box bracket.
On top of that and located behind the topper light is a vent.
There are also two vents on either side of the top box.
I'm sure that when IGT designed this machine - they made provisions for good cooling.
I just want to slow down the speed of the fan a little.
I'm thinking of taking apart my son's variable speed room fan just to see what makes it tick! :72-

Ah the barcrest, ok.  You could buy a fan rated at a higher voltage, that will slow it down, or get a bigger fan, it will make less noise.  You are pointing the fan to blow air out right?  I have a couple of fans that I use on my PC gear that has a pot to regulate the fan speed.  You might want to consider using one of those.
