RAM CLEAR PROCEDURE FOR BASIC IGT S-2000 GAMES

Equipment:     IGT S-2000 RAM Clear set contains IVC00097 & KEY00017 chips.

1.  Power down game and remove CPU board.

2.  Remove the STEPPER BASE chip U21 (SBXXXXXX) and install the IVC00097 clear chip.

3.  Re-install the CPU board and power game up, once the clear is performed the top two Amber LED's will be lit, this could take up to approx. 20 seconds.

4.  Power down the game and remove the IVC00097 clear chip and install the STEPPER BASE (SBXXXXXX) back into the U21 socket.

5.  Power the game up, and clear the error codes. The first error will be RAM ERROR, to clear this turn the JP reset keyswitch. The next message shows "GAME EPROM CRC MISMATCH",    again turn the JP reset keyswitch to clear. The next message shows "SOME CRITICAL DATA WILL BE LOST" again turn the JP reset keyswitch to clear. The next message shows the following directions "PRESS TEST BUTTON FOR 2-3 SECONDS" and then "PLEASE CLOSE DOOR"

6.  Now the game will initialize and a second error code will appear" CALL ATTENDANT", open the door and the display will show a "EEPROM ERROR". Turn the JP reset keyswitch to clear the error. The next message shows " EEPROM CRC FAILURE" again turn the JP reset keyswitch to clear. The next message shows "SOME CRITICAL DATA WILL BE LOST" again turn the JP reset keyswitch to clear.

7.  Now the game will initialize in game mode and the display will show "CALL ATTENDANT / MACHINE TYPE MISMATCH" this is normal and will only display this until the options have properly been set.

8.  Now power the game down and remove the CPU.

9.  Remove the STEPPER BASE chip U21 and replace will the KEY00017. Power up the game.

10.  When the keychip is complete again the top two Amber LED's will be lit, this could take up to approximately 20 seconds.

There are some notes that are important as mileage will vary...

1) Key 17 was replaced with Key 31 and some of the newer stuff require it

2) After a clearing different steps are done for different OS versions and some don't require a Key chip to be used at all

 a) OS less then SG00100 the steps outlined will work fine but you might not need to Key the machine after a clear to set the machine type (depends)
 b) OS greater then SG00300 has a few extra steps

Example - SG00363 requires you to set the IPC / WAMM (set this to WAMM) but can't be done until after you Key the machine

3) Games with Multi-denom hardware have an even more complex setup (not in order)
 a) you must set a % for each denom
 b) you must set or assign a denom / button for each Square (1 - 4)

That is all that is on top of my head for now as I am sure there is a bunch of stuff I am forgetting...

When using a Clear 97 don't forget to set the Machine Type with the Key chip.   It usually comes up as UNKNOWN

after going through the ram clear procedure I still have the message MACHINE TYPE MISMATCH.  I used the clear 97 and the key 17 chips.  How do you set the machine type???

I get 1 extr error message not included in para 5.  right after the "GAME EPROM CRC MISMATCH" I get error "NON RECOVERABLE DATA ERROR" which I'm able to clear with reset switch.

Using the Key chip menu select MACHINE TYPE as UPRIGHT.  Like I said in my above message it will show up as UNKNOWN if you used that 97 chip.

I was able to clear the "machine type mismatch" but was unable to get the BV to accept bills.  The BV is a know to be good and it cycles when machine is powered up.  I used the options and enabled the BV.  This machine does not have a coin acceptor, just the coin in optics assemble.  Before I tried changed it from 50 cent to 25 cent the BV was working.  Is there a certain set of options that must be set when performing a RAM clear?
thanks for your help

Check denomination 7 key chip setting
BV Limit 4 machine options this should have defaulted to 1000.00 or 3000.00
Also check to see if the machine see's the BV under accounting version menu (will show you lots of things about your chips and board etc)

Clear BV CRC is one that will pop up but really the first thing to do is go under netplex auto config and make sure BV says installed

I'm using key 17 and 97 chips for the RAM safeclear, I'm not sure what you mean by "SG" "GAME SET" "SB" "GME 1 and 2"  Sorry but these are my first experiences with S2000 and don't know the terminology yet.

Thanks for your patience

The BV entry light is not lighting up but the BV is cycling.  It is a WBA.  It was working before I attempted to change from 50 cents to 25 cents.

Did you check the netplex setup menu to see if it says installed?  If not its not going to work.   It must say bv installed.

Go to limits and see what bill amount is set to, also see what denom is set to in keychip menu, (without using keychip)

Thanks setting the Bill Limits fixed it!  I set it to 1001 which I believe means it would accept bills until it reached 1001 credits.  Is this correct?

I have one machine that accepts coins and 1 that does not.  How should I set limits for each?
Hopper_____   Credits _______ Jackpot _______ Bills Acceptor_____

I'm trying to set these up for home use, I'd like to pay up to 400 credits from the Hopper, any payouts larger than 400 would be paid by the printer.

I wish I had a printer foir my vision
I wish I had a ticket printer plus all the parts (reel glass, brackets, etc) to make it work.

Hopper= 400    Credits=9999   Jackpot 1000 ? ( goes into jackpot mode on any pay over this, I vary depending on pay table)      Bills Acceptor=9000(turns off bill acceptor when credits reach this limit)

Hi Bob,

This is the way I set up IGT S-Plus and Bally machines.

Some things to note here as you should not have had to set anything to get the BV to work after doing a clear / Key as you stated.

There would be no credits on the machine as well so even if it was set to .01 cents you should still see the BV light up.   After your first post all you said was you cleared the machine and setup the machine type after figuring out how to do that but the BV did not work.

Here is what I am missing, when you setup the machine after the clear did you go an change all the limits?    If the bill limit was zero which I am note sure you can even do it would still light up as there are zero credits on the machine.

a $1.00 bill would give 100 credits at .01 which is still below the credit limit which I think is in $ anyway.   If you set up all the limits below $1.00 and less then 99 credits then I can understand some issues but again you said it did not work after a clear.

I am just noting this so it does not confuse other folks who are doing a RAM clear and or Key chip.
