Title: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 22, 2009, 11:37:35 PM I have a GQ-4X - has anyone tried version 5 of the programming software with windows 7?
I use right now GQ programmer version 3.03 in win xp and it runs fine. Version 5 in win 7 (64 bit) keeps rebooting on me - What I mean is when the programmer tries to initialize on startup it says ready then disconnects and initialize again. Both are running in a virtual machine on a mac. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 12:05:28 AM The actual error message I'm getting is
"Hardware out of synched! Please re-connect the programmer" It disconnects from the USB hub then reconnects and tries to initialize again. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: Bettor Slots on December 23, 2009, 12:09:29 AM Have you tried running the program in "simulated XP mode" within W7 ?
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 12:11:35 AM No - I've tried that at work it it actually boots XP in a virtual machine! - It's nuts! It's like having vmware installed in windows 7.
I'm trying some different settings now. It initializes and says ready but then disconnects ! Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: stayouttadabunker on December 23, 2009, 12:13:56 AM What is causing this Munch, a new computer?
or a new Windows? Your GQ-4X worked fine all summer? Did you get some updated version from the MCUMall people? Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 12:19:20 AM I am running a MacBook Pro with snow leopard. I have XP installed in a virtual machine and the programmer works perfectly - 100% - and I even backed up my chips with it tonight.
I also have win7 installed in a virtual machine and that is where the problem comes in. in Win7 it does not work. - Even thought the mcumall page has the drivers and software for it. I would just like to dump my XP virtual machine. I use Win 7 for almost everything now and it runs fast and well on my mac. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 12:28:16 AM OK I have another Win7 laptop - and I installed the programmer software on that and it worked fine. So the problem must be with the virtual machine.
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: StatFreak on December 23, 2009, 02:33:33 AM Thanks for letting us know. I'm still running GQ-4X v4.04 on XP with no issues, but like it or not, there's probably a Windows 7 in my future... :58- :60-
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: stayouttadabunker on December 23, 2009, 02:39:17 AM Hopefully, MCUMall will have the bugs worked out of their updates for the programmer soon!
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: brichter on December 23, 2009, 06:08:56 AM Just a thought... have you tried it without the hub?
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 10:52:17 AM It is confirmed that everything runs fine in Windows 7. I loaded version 5 and the 2.03 driver in a standalone win7 machine and it runs fine.
The problem is with my VM. I'm going to uninstall everything and try version 3.03 with usb driver 1.0. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: Stolistic on December 23, 2009, 12:00:50 PM Related, but just an FYI for others reading this later....
Version 4.02 works fine under Vista 64-bit. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: brichter on December 23, 2009, 04:01:21 PM The reason I ask that is because I had a similar issue wwith XP in Fusion, it didn't like the USB 2.0 hub I had. I bought a different one and everything was fine...
It wasn't with a programmer, though, it was with a USB to serial converter. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 04:08:15 PM I have tried directly in the machine - no luck.
I tried version 3.03 but that didn't work at all under the 64 bit version of win 7. The drivers aren't compatible. Does anyone have 4.02? I would like to try it. MCUmall only has the latest version (5) available. Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: Stolistic on December 23, 2009, 04:59:39 PM :172-
Title: Re: Programmer Hell Post by: jdkmunch on December 23, 2009, 06:56:54 PM Thanks! - I tried it but same result -
When I start the software I get the initialization screen then I hear the tone as if I disconnected the programmer then it crashes. Too bad there isn't mac software. |
