Try holding the test switch for 2-5 seconds.

I know that is the fix for one of the 65-x tilts.
Otherwise the accounting/settings eeprom on the MB has finally failed on you a 24c04 on the motherboard.
If you have to replace it acquire a 8 pin socket and a replacement chip or another motherboard.

I've had the 65x codes come up on my machines from time to time, it's usually when you do a game change and for some reason the mother board doesn't like it, especially if is changing to a different game type.

did you try clearing the game with a ram clear chip?, the other way is to try the reset procedures that are on the inside door of the machine, have had to do this a few times to get mine to clear.

another thing to consider, are the game and reel eproms known to be good?, maybe try a different game

The Clear chip actually clears both the CMOS and the accounting/setup EEPROM
I havent used one lately but it supposed show it is counting up or down (cant remember) on the display.

Just to see if it goes away put original game and reel prom back into the MPU

You may have a bad Eprom, or if using a 16 Meg Board a too slow Game Chip, (not 120ns or <)

On the "Home" page, try a search using "65-1".
What will come up is your topic and the other topic which sort of covers your problem.
Normally, opening the door and turning the reset key will save you.
But when the code keeps bouncing back to the "65-1" code  you may need a SET chip to recover.
Check with our vendors on the home page for a pair of appropiate chips and instructions.
Good luck and keep us updated with details!
By the way, I noticed you never mentioned which SS and SP chips you are trying to install.
Also, whether or not your PCB is a 10MHz or 16MHz board. 10 MHZ board have the little volume knob.
You will also see small little square-ish silver crystals that might have either 10.00 or 16.00 printed on them.
That's telling ya you have either a 10 or 16 MHZ board.
This type of info is helpful to us if you want help...
