Title: Fortune I Emulator via MAME
Post by: Stolistic on December 28, 2009, 09:55:33 PM
I've started a preliminary driver for the IGT Fortune I machine in MAME.  I still need to get the colors working, sound and some of the inputs, but things are proceeding nicely.

I only have the main board and not the sound board, so I cannot emulate sound yet.  If anyone can help out with a sound board, please PM me.

I don't know if these would be any help for color reference, but I played this Fortune I (I'm pretty sure it's an Fortune 1) machine at the Skyline Casino out in Las Vegas.  Custom cardback, obviously, but perhaps the screenshots can help you with matching colors -- in particular the colored "hold" text over the cards I held, as I'm pretty sure those colors stay constant for each held card each time (ie. the 3rd card always has magenta hold text, and the 4th card always uses cyan).

Thanks a ton!  Those color references will be extremely helpful!  I was about to ask if anyone had screenshots for reference, so now I won't need to.

I think all that is left is the sound board now.  I believe there may be two socketed chips on it that holds the sounds (which I am missing) which are output through a DAC to the speakers.

The hardware design of the Fortune I is remarkably similar to a foreign version made by "InterFlip" and another by "Recreativos Franco".  In fact, they share the EXACT bipolar rom for the CAP chip.  I'm not sure if these were clones that ripped off the hardware from IGT or the other way around.  I would assume IGT was the originator of the hardware, but maybe licensed the technology to others or they just made bootlegs without IGT's permission.

If anyone would know the above information, it would be interesting to add to the driver documentation/history.

Cool stuff,
PM me with your address and I'll send you a Fortune 1 sound board for your project.

I've tackled the color issues.  Seems the color palette was generated incorrectly.  After the corrections things match perfectly with Knagl's pictures above.

Thanks again for the reference shots.

Yes, this was added to MAME sometime in January.  Everything (including sound) seems quite stable.
