Title: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: Billythekid on October 13, 2008, 11:04:26 PM Hello,
So I got a "Game Maker HD" slot topper from Renee. It looks great in the box but I was surprised to see the multi pin connector that comes out of it. I expected two power wires! What are all these wires for and how do I connect them? I'm hoping multiply voltages required.... I will be installing this on a 1999 Game Maker. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Also more details such as connector type and pinout and wire colors may help as well. This will all be helpful after it is solved and others read this topic later. These are the following wires and what they are connected to: Yellow Blue 1 + Yellow Blue 2 + Gray Yellow 1 - Gray Yellow 2 - These four wires power the back light LEDs - When 18VDC was put to them they lite up dimley - My Guess is that 24vDC goes to these guys. Note that the two pairs for positive and negitive are connected together because using one set or the other powers all the LEDs meaning there are two sets for amperage sake. Gray Blue + Gray Red - These two wires power the LEDs on the bezel that do the chasing effects. Applying between 4.5 and 6vDC makes these guys go. Even though they run on 4.5 I assumed its likely that a Bally Gamemaker HD power supply has more of a chance of a 6vDC ccircuit than a 4.5vDC. If anyone knows what the standard voltages of the Bally Gamemaker HD are that will confirm my guesses. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: tacman on October 14, 2008, 10:40:32 AM Any help from our current Techs who may have access to the Gamemaker HD manuals for this voltage issue would be appreciated. Since Renee seems to be getting a few of these, I'm sure more of our members would probably also like this information since the toppers will be going on something other than a Bally HD. Thanks!

Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stormrider on October 17, 2008, 08:37:10 AM I also picked up a topper from renee for my Bally S6000
the topper has 1 4pin connector for the candle the other 2 connectors are molex 10 pin 1 female 1 male I have no idea where to hook up I see no other molex connections inside my S6000 other than the top of the box which has a 3 pin and 12 I tired to google any info on it I did see something on a Bally power adapter model AS-02982-0049 FOR these toppers any help would be great...I would have taken some pictures but my daughter has broke my digital camera might try my cell phone camera but thats not very good quality Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: blueridgeslots on October 17, 2008, 10:03:09 AM My guess is they are for Alpha's and they possibly daisy chain from the 2 connectors, but haven't looked into them yet
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stormrider on October 17, 2008, 11:22:31 AM Jim, I believe you are correct on being alpha topper's
I did a little more research and thats what I found also per billythekid's post on wiring layout I hooked up the chaser lights to a 6v power adapter and they ran fine and used a power supply at 18v to run the back light leds so at least I know the topper is working might just buy a 18/24v power adapter for that and run the whole topper this way in my S6000 will post some pictures if I can. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How I got it to work!! Post by: Billythekid on October 20, 2008, 02:34:41 AM I got it hooked up and working.
1. found 24vdc behind the upper light bar at the primary mechanical counter connector. Yellow 18g wire is + and the two 18G brown wires are - . The yellow was not used on the molex connector so I just pushed the wire in. This powers the main bank of LED the back light the sign. 2. I found 5 volts down in the bottom right side of the case but +5 and -5 brown and green was ground. This circuit did not power the LEDs that do the chasing... I guess not enough amprege. So I just used a external 5vdc power supply plugged into the service outlet. I found 110vac in the top but I didn't have an AC outlet to hook up.. the feed in the top is switched and the service outlet below is not. So eventually I'll get it hooked up top so I don't have to unplug the chasing LED power supply when I shut down the machine. Heres a picture. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: tacman on October 20, 2008, 03:04:42 AM Hey Billy, it looks good. What type of seqeunce do the chaser lights make? Also nice looking red glass on that Gamemaker, don't see too many like that. :3-
Dan (tacman) Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: Billythekid on October 20, 2008, 03:22:30 AM Thanks, the chaser does about 7 different patterns... chasing every other light, chassing groups of two lights, all lights fade on and off, wrap around from top to botom, all flashing and others. It looks great in person! I'm happy with it.
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stayouttadabunker on October 20, 2008, 12:24:52 PM The thing I like bout his setup is the way the topper lights ended up evenly in total height.
Nice job! Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: Jake777 on November 04, 2008, 05:34:17 PM Hi
I too got a Gamemaker topper. I tried to follow Billythekids instructions, but not being that electrical savvy I don't understand them. I was trying to get the bezel lights to work. Could you explain which combination of wire are attached to the (+) leads and (-) leads. As mentioned earlier this topper won't be going on a Gamemaker, so I plan to run it independently. I will be using 5vDC and 24 vDC as suggested. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: jstraa on August 26, 2009, 01:25:19 PM Any ideas on Amperage what will it need? I want to hook it up to an adapter (actually 2 adapters)
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: jslots on November 06, 2009, 12:16:01 AM Hi All
I myself need a little help with a Bally oval topper I'm trying to set up on a Sigma machine.I know the outer chaser lights use 5vdc & I'm set with that.I also know the center lights use 24vdc but the ac adaptor I'm using is rated at 600ma.my question is is 600ma good or do i need more? If anyone knows what it should be i would appreciate it.I'd like to get this thing lite up. :99- Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 06, 2009, 12:22:04 AM It may be possible that there's 24Vdc coming out of the light harness going to the topbox...
I have a Sigma 150B, I don't know what kind of Sigma you have...they made a few different kinds... I'm not by my machine 'til morning but you can check with a multimeter for that 24Vdc. I don't know if 600mA is enough to kick on the light ballast, if there's one.. Pictures of the insides of it will definitely help us solve this... :89- esp. pics of the wiring and exact numbers on the components inside behind the topper glass. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: jslots on November 06, 2009, 12:38:26 AM Hi this is a sigma UV 1700 I'm working on. I already looked & could not find 24vdc anywhere in the machine. So i am going with an external power supply for the 24v part. The center lights in this topper are LED's. The guy at the store has a 24vdc 600ma adaptor in stock I just want to know if that would be good or do i need bigger.
Thanks Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 06, 2009, 01:25:30 AM oh! They're LEDs!
Why didn't you say that before? :72- LEDs use hardly any amperage... you should be good to go. If you're wondering... I remember seeing a website somewhere with a chart for measuring LEDs and what power supply you'd need to run them.... think it was on some christmas tree lighting place? Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 06, 2009, 02:09:33 PM I looked in my Sigma 150B topbox for 24Vdc...couldn't find any either...
There's a 12Vdc, a 115Vac and 6Vdc only. I can only assume it's the same for yours too. Try the adapter and see if it has enough juice. I think you'll be okay because like I said earlier, LEDs don't draw too much. If you could get a 24Vdc adapter with at least 1A I think you'll be better off though. Jslots Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: Op-Bell on November 06, 2009, 10:17:44 PM Calculating the current... Each LED rarely takes more than 20mA (1/50 Amp), and white LEDs need 3V each. So for panels of lights running off 24V, you can expect the LEDs to be in strings of 6 or more, at 1/50 amp or less for each string. IE, if there are 60 LEDs total, that's ten strings of six needing 1/5A (200mA) total.
For chase lights running off 5V it's different. Each lit LED wants its own separate 20mA. So if there are 60 lights in the ring and they all come on at once, the current drain will be 60 x 1/50, or 1.2 amps. These are just rules of thumb, different toppers may vary, but the physics of LEDs don't change so these are fairly reliable figures. Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: jslots on November 07, 2009, 12:39:32 AM Thanks for all the info.I went out & got the 24vdc 600ma adaptor today.I'm wiring the topper right now so i can see it lite up tonight . :89-
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 07, 2009, 03:37:45 AM How many LEDs are in your topper?
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: jslots on November 07, 2009, 08:00:34 PM This Bally topper has 18 LED's in the center+ the chase lights. The funny thing is i have two of this topper & i thought they were exact but the other one has 24 lights in the center. Maybe manufactured from a differant year? :103-
Title: Re: Slot Topper - How to connect this thing? Post by: Railroad94 on November 08, 2009, 01:38:02 AM The Bally Alpha toppers have 36 chase at 5V 400Ma is not enough used 1300Ma works no problem
