Title: IGT Slat top Value
Post by: klorvinborno on January 11, 2010, 11:00:22 AM
Does anyone have a sense of general value on the IGT slant top machines (wholesale and retail) ?  When I see them listed for $300+ they don't seem to sell.

Because they are not really popular. The weigh a heck of a lot and they are very cumbersome to move Economics says, low demand=low price. Nobody wants them unless they have a specific need or are just gluttons for punishment.

I pretty agree with reho's post above but I would like to add,
they are THE most comfortable machine to play games on with that nice arm rest!

It's a "Double Standard". You cant give away Slant Top machines, BUT! try to find a slant top Gameking.....goodluck!
I agree, I would like to have a few IGT and WMS Slants, but they take up so much room, weigh in at 350+ pounds and are a pain to get thru the front door. Now what we need is a happy marraige between a "Barkolounger" and a Slimline complete with a drinktray.....

If you have the room for one $300 is a pretty good deal if it's a S2000
even better if it has backlit reels and sound sim the sound from a Slant Top blows away an upright machine
in my opinion, with the lower speaker in the bottom of the cabinet(feet level) makes it put out some awesome bass
the other 2 speakers at ear level assuming your sitting down makes for a nice sounding machine overall
Also changing kits is a breeze just changing the award glass out and strips is simple I do see kits pop up on ebay from time to time
so if you have the room and its a local buy you can't go wrong for the price I wouldn't try and ship one
then you might be talking double the price.Everyone should have 1 slant in the collection  :96- I do

This will make you all sick...

I was at one of my suppliers recently and saw about 30, like new slant top machines with good titles, sitting outside a warehouse covered with 12" of snow.  So I asked "so what is the deal with those" and reply was "well you know those don't sell for much, more trouble than they are worth, so they all go to a recyclers where we get $50 bucks a head".  I tend to agree...they are more trouble than what their resell value would bring to anyone in the business.

I like them, If i had room for them I wouldnt mind a bank of like 4 of them. As mentioned they are comfortable as hell if playing for awhile.

I know that Clown2948 (Robert) has a few in his photos. Some of the parts can be utilized. For example: a slant top reels and lighting kit could be used in an upright S2000, just re-adjust the reels and lights. Maybe comparitors. Yes I have played them and they are cool but getting one down some stairs..........not smart. You need professional movers at that point. Or you could do it the poor man's way and jut dis-assemble the sucker and re-assemble it at the place where you want it to be. :72-

I wanted to make a bar out of slants but they extended too far out and would interfere with playing pool.

The plan was to strip off the top box with the candle.
Behind the slants I would mount some cabinets that were level with the top.
I would then create a base in which the slant(s) would mounted on to raise it to bar height.
Next I would mount a length of MDF to the tops of the machine using the screw holes left by the top boxes for ancoring.
This forms a solid flat platform in which the bar top could be silicon adhered.
I would likely drill a hole through this and snake the candle wires and electrical that previously drove the lights in the top boxes.
Finally I would get my bar top cut. The plan would be to do several route-outs in which the slant top glass could simply be layed
into and do some backlighting.

This now allows me to use full sized bar stools and have a padded rail around my bar along with the slots..
Not all that much construcion actually.
