Title: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: jbt777 on January 14, 2010, 02:15:06 PM I recently purchased a ram clear chip set for my s+ from eBay. The instructions say to check the jumpers next to the game prom and set them to 16 pin. Well, there are no jumpers on my board. The machine has a mfg date of 96. Will these chips damage my machine? Or do these chips work in all s-series .
I am heading out now and will check back this afternoon. Thank you in advance. Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: stayouttadabunker on January 14, 2010, 04:27:04 PM If your MPU board doesn't have any jumpers next to the sockets, then I wouldn't worry about it.
Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: jbt777 on January 14, 2010, 05:07:36 PM Thank you very much! I'll give it a try and hope for the best. Your info and help are greatly appreciated!
Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: stayouttadabunker on January 14, 2010, 05:19:51 PM Thanks, do you have detailed instructions on how to correctly use your Clear and SET chips?
I need to ask why you want to clear your machine...is there something wrong with it? Remember, don't try to fix it if it ain't broke! :96- Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: jbt777 on January 14, 2010, 05:51:45 PM Tell you the truth, the reason why I bought them is to activate my bill acceptor. But I've yet to receive everything that is needed to make it functional. So, you don't recommend that the machine be cleared?
Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: stayouttadabunker on January 14, 2010, 05:57:40 PM No...you do not have to clear a machine.
However, you do need a SET chip to activate (enable) the bill acceptor. Do you hear any noises coming from the DBV when you power up the machine? Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: knagl on January 14, 2010, 08:11:14 PM Agreed, put the clear chip in a safe place and generally you'll never need to use it, but you have it if you need it. The SET chip is the one you'll need to enable a bill validator.

Is it just me, or does something seem amiss with those instructions? Who ever heard of setting any jumper on an S+ to use a clear chip? The SP socket is 28 pins. Where does "16 pin" come into play here? (a 32 pin 2x16 DIP chip would not fit in an S+). Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible??? Post by: stayouttadabunker on January 15, 2010, 03:07:08 AM I think the instructions means to move the jumpers from LOCATION 15 to 16.
These jumper locations are etched onto the MPU boards right next to the chip sockets. I remember this because I had to move the jumpers when I installed my SP050 on a 10MHz MPU board. Otherwise the game would not "boot up". Title: Re: Are these Ram chips compatible???
