Title: Shipping slot machines via UPS Thoughts?
Post by: Goldfinger on January 15, 2010, 03:29:48 PM
I was doing some research on shipping methods to ship a slot machine 214 lbs from 97470( Or ) to 46322 ( In ) by freight  cost app $250.00 plus all the palleting stuff. but according to UPS rates for the same weight 193.48 BUT here is the catch UPS 150 lb weight limit so if you remove the hopper, coin tray, glass and top box you get 2 packages 1 at 145 lbs and 1 at 69 lbs, these items are relitivley easy it reinstall once you receive your packages to your door step.

Any pros and cons ? :30-
What are your thoughts? I know this really opens the door for a few of you  :208-

I haven't tried this yet but am thinking about it has any one else tried it?

Thanks
Goldfinger

No, but I really think that real motor freight would be the way to go.......unless it's a parts machine...

OOPS - aka UPS - if you have a problem - they will screw you on paying a claim - they will gladly accept your shipment and the insurance money - but try to collect!!!  best going freight - even Forward Air is better.

Plus I think there is a physical size limitation also.

Yeah, it has to be small enough for them to kick and throw around before they deliver it to you. :25- :30-
After all, Oops has a reputation to uphold. :47- :5-

Bob,  We spoke earlier but once again-Do not do that-- :60-.  A couple years ago I had sold a Mint condition ms. pacman cocktail game on e-bay.  The buyer arranged their shipping.  He used ups ground and instructed me to pack it in a cardboard box.  The game was packed that way to the hilt-padding,foam etc.. They showed up here to get it-it was a little pettite women and no way she could handle it so I actually placed it in the truck for her. Needless to say it arrived at it's destination completely destroyed.  That fella never got his money.  I warned him big time prior to this via phone when I knew what he was doing.  They are not equipped to handle the big heavy stuff.  On a lot of other packages you ship with them you have to "en-tomb" them like a mummy to make sure the parts/item makes it whole.  Just my experiences and 2-cents-B.  Gotta use a bonified freight carrier for this stuff to have a chance.

I have used "Craters & Freighters" they are NOT the cheapest, but they pick it up, build a custom container and the machines have always gotten there in PERFECT shape and on time....
"Central Freight" DESTROYED a "Odessey" by hitting it with a forklift and tried to deny they did it. We finally did collect the insurance but what a pain in the ass...

Try FedEx ground, I've been shipping all my 50+ pound items with FedEx and they always beat UPS price.
