Title: Handle soleniod
Post by: Paladin on January 18, 2010, 10:06:28 PM
I just finished working on my recent purchase - a 10 Times Pay Deluxe.  No luck yet with my post in the classifieds for a better percentage chip, it's got a 90% in it now and it's TIGHT!

Anyway, today I tackled the last problem with the game.  The reel stop sound that comes from the handle solenoid would work for 5 to 10 spins then it would stop working.  This would happen if you used the buttons to spin.  Once it cut out I'd spin with the handle, and the solenoid would come back to life for another 5 to 10 spins and then cut out again.

I removed the handle assembly, and everything looked alright.  I decided to try a solenoid swap from my other working S Plus.  Apart from dropping a mounting plate bolt down into the power supply, and somehow snapping the hex bolt that retains the handle while removing the handle from my other game - the swap went fine.  Both solenoids looked and appeared to move the same, but I went ahead and swapped them.

Now the 10 Times Pay is working fine.  I played dozens of spins with the buttons, and it's working great.  I searched the forums to try and find any info on this issue, but didn't come accross anything.  Has anyone else had the solenoid fail?  I'm thinking I should try and get a replacement rather than put my other game back together with the questionable one.  Opinions welcome!

I had a similar problem with my machine.  I tried cleaning the solenoid and it worked for a while.  Mine was even chattering.
You can remove it, and all you lose is the clicking sound and the lock-out on the handle.  Or just disconnect it. handle locks up, but
a lot of people never use it, only hit the buttons.  I finally replaced mine with another one, and it worked great. Several of the dealers here have them.
I later just unplugged mine, as the clicking/reel sound gets annoying in this tiny room. I just enabled the reel sound on the chip.  I only use the buttons now ,
so its no big deal to me at least.  Good Luck, its an easy fix  :96-

...

Consider that the 10 Times Pay theme is very volatile and will have long runs with no wins, even with a higher paying chip. They had to lower the relative number of small and mid level pays to allow for those 10x and 100x payouts, while still keeping the overall payout under 100%.

Wow, thanks for the stats Stat!

All I've hit so far is 1 or 2 cherries, mixed bars and twice I hit 10x with one cherry.  I was wondering why the hits were so far apart.

PM me with your address and I will send you a complete assembly with the solenoid, pawl etc at no cost to you. I have attached a picture so you can match it up.  Many members here have done me some very solid favors over the years and I enjoy reciprocating the favor when I can.

Frank.

Karma to Stout and Frank!  I had read that post about the soleniod a while ago but forgot all about it.  I think I'll take Frank up on his offer, as I don't have anything else to order at Mouser at this time.  Wouldn't you know it, I just had some capacitors delivered last week.

Gotta love this group of great folks!!
