Title: Bally S 5500, from three reels to four reels, is that mission possible?
Post by: BALLIGATOR1973 on January 28, 2010, 09:08:29 AM
Hi,

Can a 3-reel machine be converted into a four-reel machine?  What about the plugs behind the reels?
If anyone has done it, please let me know. Thank you! :88-

It can be done I suppose...but what about your bill acceptor? It's usually behind the reel glass on the right in a Bally 5500?

In France bill acceptors have been allowed in casinos for three years so 99% of second hand machines do not have a BA.

I have a 4-reel 5500 and the dbv is in the same location as my 3-reel machine, i.e., the reel shelves are the same size. The difference is that the reel strips for the 4-reel games are thinner. The baskets have two sets of prongs between them and I believe that the same baskets can be used for either width, although I can't be sure since I've never tried it. The reels themsevles (stepper motor and bracket assy. are the same)

You'll have to change the reel shelf, the reel glass, the reel harness assy., and buy one more reel.

<ADD> You might also have to change some dip switches on the MPU board, but I'm not sure of that either.

The personality chips denote how many reels and coins etc.  There is a bracket that the top of the reels slot into also.

Bally S6000 machines have a space to the right of the 4th reel for the ticket printer, roughly the width of a bill acceptor.  They also have 5 reel S6000 machines.

Thanks,
