Steve, I think it depends on what you're looking for out of the show and what you want to buy and/or sell.  St. Charles is about 45 minutes from downtown Chicago.  Staying at the resort is probably the most convenient, however if it was me I would stay in the city.  I've heard they have a special if you stay there to play golf at their course.

We are going to sell  outside but if it rains we drove 12 hrs , rented  truck , hotel and spot could cost us a 1000,1500 b4 we make a dime, inside is safer bet  but out fri you get 1st shot , just got forms today not sure yet weather we,ll go or not , would be nice to meet some of you

Slotsteve,  You may want to save a few bucks and just go to the Mickey-Dees parking lot or what not-- :103-.  Depending on what you are offering etc..  I think I am enough educated on the past shows to say the action is there--- :103-.  The show it self yeilds some great --from what I seen antique treasures and unique items but very pricey on the most part---Just strictly a opinion on my part--Thanks B.

If I go i,m planing on  taking some lock n rolls I games and  game kings but again It depends on  my cost ahead weather it will be worth a 12 hour drive :25- I have a van that holds 8 slots or a 14ft truck that will hold 15, lbs wise  or if I rent  i could take  30  truck rental will cost 1000  plus gas ,
Thanks for inputs

Slotsteve, I have never attended one of these shows. My only knowledge of them comes from the posts and pictures that our members have shared over the years. However, there doesn't seem to be much of a slot machine presence in the shows themselves, particularly with regard to newer machines. They seem to focus on other coin-op products, although you might see a few phony antique machines for sale. :25-

Most of our members horse trade their slot wares before the show and then just enjoy the show for what it is. Of course, that doesn't mean that they don't buy stuff at the show!  :5- It might be worthwhile to arrange purchases with NLG members in advance and then bring the agreed upon machines with you to the parking lot. Mickey-Dees doesn't charge anything to use their lot, although you might want to buy a cup of coffee. :72- :72-

Just a thought.

Hello all!

Well it's that time again and just over a month away!

The Chicagoland Spring Coin-op Show will be held at Pheasant Run Resort on April 9th, 10th and 11th 2010.  As usual, the NLG pre-meet will be on Saturday the 10th at the McDonald's just to the west and north of the convention center starting at about 7-8 am.  Below is a map of the area and another of the resort/convention center and McDonald's.

Here is a link for more show info...

http://www.chicagolandshow.com/ (http://www.chicagolandshow.com/)

Check out the link below for pictures from previous years....

Anyone is welcome to attend...

Wish I could, but we're hoping to close on our house at the end of this month -- any weekends after that will be spent cleaning, painting, moving, etc.  Hopefully I can make the fall show.

For those who haven't been, the pre-show meet at the McDonald's parking lot is the best part of the show (in my opinion) -- plan to be there for that if you're going to go.  :89-

Looks like we won't make it either.  :8-  Too many trips planned this year.

The parking lot meet at IS the show for me!

This is a show I'd like to see and will see how things go over the next few weeks.  I may just make it there this time...  Which show is better spring or fall?

Thanks,
Wayne

I should be able to make it... So who's got what for sale or trade ???  To answer your question Wayne.... For most who attend the show; the best part is meeting up at the McDonalds a few hours before the show.  You get a chance to meet up with fellow members and at the last show we had about 15 or so attend. There were endless trades and buying going on.  Some members bring free stuff that they no longer need . It's just a great get-together.   I am told that the prices inside the show are a bit better in the spring as the fall show runs closer to Christmas and prices tend to be inflated.   Bill

If I do go, I may bring some glass that I know people will likely want, since I don't ship glass.

Wayne

What day and time frame at Mickey D's?  I know the cash register club sets up at the Holiday Inn across from Colonial Cafe on 64 on Thursday starting at around 10 am. A lot of slots show up there but no newer stuff....all antiques.

The one time I went I stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Geneva ( http://www.comfortinngeneva.com/ ).  It's about five minutes away from the resort where the show is, but their rates were a lot cheaper.  The hotel was very nice and, at least to me, well worth the "inconvenience" of not being right at the show.

Edit: I just did a quick search -- for two nights starting on the 9th, the Comfort Inn is $51 cheaper (total) -- beware of the hidden mandatory "resort fee" that the Pheasant Run Resort adds to its room rates.  You can also check out Expedia or similar sites and search for hotels near St. Charles, IL, to find even cheaper rates if you're willing to stay a little further out from the show location (rates starting at $54 a night for hotels about 10 miles out).

I haven't been to the Chicago show for 10 years - back then the dealing was Friday before the show in the parking lot - semis - moving vans etc full of TREASURES - over the years other mini shows popped up around the show - and the show changed ownership.  Seems like alot more goes on nearby now - MCDs with NLGers?   I am going this year - since the weather in Chicago can't be any worse than we had here in Florida this winter.  Staying at the Holiday Inn express down the street - the Peasant Run hotel is OVER PRICED and was a DUMP last time I stayed there - the water STUNK (you couldn't take a shower unless you liked the smell of sewage).  Look forward to running into some of the NLGers.  I am going as a viewer/buyer - flying up.

I always stay at the Hilton Garden Inn right across the street.  You can walk across to the show.  .The rooms are very nice, and a decent restaurant for breakfast.  The rate is $99 if you tell them you are with COCA  (Coin Operated Machine Collector's Assn).  I agree with Barry 100% about the Pheasant Run.  Stay anywhere but there.
BTW   the first smaller show is at Kane County Fairgrounds (Rt 64 & Randall Rd) on Wednesday and Thursday before the Chicagoland Show.  Don't make a special trip for it, but if you happen to be in town it is something to do.
Anyone bringing an IGT TOP DOLLAR to the show?

Title: Re: Chicagoland Coin-op Show Spring 2010
Post by: Ron (r273) on March 23, 2010, 10:41:22 PM
For newcomers to the MD's parking lot may I suggest the following:

1. Make a list of swap or give away items you may want to bring, along with items for sale.

2. Include a wish list of items or machine(s) you are looking for.

3. If you are looking for a machine you need to contact a dealer or individual before the meet.
(The few machines at the show are usually not cheap)

Post your list here so others coming might bring an item or two with them. (or someone on forum
may have it)

Hope this helps. Have fun, wish I could be there.

I have inquired about Aristocrat MK-VI machines and they quote a price from $3800-5000 but no one I talk to has them available. I was told they are hard to sell in the US, so it is easier, and probably more profitable to sell in bulk going overseas. II would give Slotmaster and Rocky Mountain a call, I don't think Blueridge has any, but drop him a line as well just to be sure.

OK well it looks like a little more than a week away, so everybody try and get their sell, want and free lists together. I called HAPP for ticket packs, but the packs will not be available until Apr. 15th. You can let me know at the pre-meet if you want any and how many you want. They will be $3 per pack then whatever S&H is or you can pick them up from me, your choice. DansGames has a load of used aluminum slot stands available. They need to be cleaned and possibly a coat of spray paint, but at $45 each I think they are a good deal. DansGames said he may bring a few already cleaned & painted at a slightly higher cost. If interested in any slot stands please call DansGames prior to the show because I don't know how many he will be putting in the trailer. This way you are guaranteed your stand(s).

I was going though several boxes and found the below items I will bring to  the show:

WMS 550 choptop Money Groove glass set

WMS 550 choptop X Marks the Spot glass set

WMS 550 Aztec Adventure belly glass

WMS 16" Magic Lamp dotmation kit (award glass has big chip missing in bottom corner)

IGT S+ 9" Haywire glass & strips

IGT Wild Cherry Pie strip set

Several candles

Some harnesses, misc boards and jackpot bells in the free box

Dan (tacman)

Oh, I also have a 16" 550 Spiderman glass set by Shufflemaster if anyone is interested.

I attended the friday morning dealer preview - several no NLG were there selling IGT S+  and newer games - saw guys wheeling IGTs into the building for tomorrows show!!!  I thought the local cops made major busts out here a few  years ago for selling new machines?  Anyway - there were no bargains for me  - bought an IGT S+ boards/tray for $10.  Only saw 2 older Bally - very few Pashi-junk.  And is was COLD - hey I am a wimp from 90 degree Florida - snow flurries last night - ice on my rental car window this am.  HOPEFULLY warmer tomorrow - willl be at MCDs at 12.  ME BAD - 7 am it is.  thanks.

That's interesting about newer machines being brought into the show.  When I went there a few years ago, the "newest" machines were S+'s with the bill validators removed.

I hope you see Dave's message before tomorrow -- if you show up at McDonald's at Noon, nobody will be there -- they get there bright and early for the NLG member wheel-n-deal.

Well, the day is done and its over till the next show in fall. Again the pre-meet was the life of the party. Bunnyslots shoved up in a makeshift cast on his foot looking for the sympathy vote.  :79- Probably did that so I wouldn't Tazer him in the parking lot!  :97- We missed a few members who said they were going to show up but didn't, I hope everything is well with them and nothing serious to cause their absence. I missed Barry Fox from FoxSlots at the pre-meet but was able to catch up with him at the show. Barry it was real nice to meet you and I'm sorry we got separated before really being able to talk. There were several more venders this time with modern slots actually selling inside the building. Monte Carlo's, I games and Reel Touches were displayed along with S2000's and Bally 6000's. I will post the pre-meet pics here as well as slot related pics from the show. All other pics will be put in the Chicagoland Spring 2010 Gallery. Hey Uniman, I was surprised they had a Uni and it wasn't one of those tourney Mag 7's!   :96- A few machines changed hands but I'll let the new owners chime in on those, and slot stands were sold, I bought two. :3-

I thought this was a neat machine, kinda like a mechanized roulette but would build poker hands with the pill. And an old television, anyone remember these. I'm too young.  :72-

K+ for the photos and report Tacman!  Hopefully more  :nlg- members will be able to make it in for the fall show.  The show itself sounds like it was better than the fall '09 show, which was my first.  Hope everyone has fun with their new toys...and I hope dpalmi didn't blow the suspension out in his van draggin' all those S2000's home.  :72-

Thanks for the pics Tacman! Three line Triple Cherries was a popular machine. A lot of frequent little hits. See this one has a DVB so that means an 8800 board. Looks to be in decent shape too.

I added a Spring 2010 folder to the Picture Gallery for the pictures and moved the pictures that Tacman uploaded into the new folder.
I also added a folder for the Fall event.

You can access the NLG Picture Gallery from the main portal page (in the left side column)
You can also get directly to the Chicagoland Spring 2010 sub-folder using this link (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=viewalbum;id=27).

sorry I missed hooking up with you all at MCDs - was there but did not see the expected trucks/vans/semis full of bargains - there was a cash register / slot show at the Holiday Inn express I stayed at on thurs - even with the rain and SNOW!!!! there were quite afew sellers/buyers.  The Chicago show preview was a major disappointment - not much in the parking lot - only 2 bally - some dealers at Igames - bally6000 - S+ for sale - and they even ended up INSIDE the show - guess the local cops don't bother anymore.  Got to talk with a few of you NLGs at the show and enjoyed the chit chat.  Hopefully I can make it to another get together and meet more of you.
