Title: Re: GOOG-411 Post by: markhall186 on June 22, 2011, 03:48:52 AM Recently, I used the toll-free Justdial service. I called up 1800-500-0000, and my queries were answered within 60 seconds by a real person! They also connected me to the vendor I was looking for. I truly think Justdial is one step ahead of 1800GOOG services.

Title: Re: GOOG-411 Post by: knagl on June 22, 2011, 09:19:46 PM From what I've read, too, the purpose of Google 411 wasn't to provide a (great) service to the public -- it was to capture thousands of different voices, dialects, accents, etc. and be able to refine their voice recognition software for use in other applications. They shut it down once they had gathered enough data (ie. enough people speaking into the computer and confirming or denying that they were understood correctly by the computer). Pretty ingenious.
