Title: CDS Sound Chips
Post by: MarkInAz on February 03, 2010, 12:25:08 PM
I have a 320 Pickpocket, my friend has a 320 Big Cheese.  Both work fine but the music is interesting.  When the Pickpocket hits a bonus spin it says "the big cheese" and then plays the bonus music, etc.  But when the Big Cheese hits a bones it only plays a little introduction tune then the usual bonus music.  It seems the sound Eprom are incorrect.  I see there are 4 chips, U3, U4, U5, U6.  Does anyone know anything about these chips?

I'm not that knowledgeable about these, but I know that they use the same chips for several different themes. One sets the theme to match the glass and strips during the birthing process. I'm not certain if Pickpocket and Big Cheese are on the same chip set, but if so, you might just need to rebirth the machines and pick the correct themes.

Buzz should know. If he doesn't post here soon, you might send him a pm.

They're no different from the clear or set chips for S+ machines: if you own a CDS, having the birth chips for it becomes SOP. :71-

Paul is the person you need to talk to about CDS's  I can say that when it worked my Big Cheese did not say any thing. I do think you have the wrong sound chips in Pickpocket, they have a label on the chips telling you what game they are for.

David the sound chips are not on the MPU, they are mounted to another board next to the hopper and I don't think birth will change them. If I have learend anything about slot machines that I can pass on it would be DO NOT buy a CDS. If you do buy one also buy every spare MPU board you can get your hands on, your going to need them.  :200- :200-

Skipper we need a new smiley  one with a little guy smashing a slot with a BFH!!   :211-

I had thought that you liked the reel CDS machines. I stand corrected.

I found the CDS the easiest to work on.  I agree with Buzz, it sounds like it's the wrong sound chips for it.  The board is on the left side, in my picture you can see it hanging on the wall.  Check the files and I bet you they say Big Cheese on them.

One out of six works  !!!!!!  Need I say more. :138- :200-

I'm thinking of making a trip over there soon to check them out.  Not the video ones though, bit he has had problems with them for a while now.

You were absolutely correct Ashyron.  My Pickpocket sound chips are labeled "Big Cheese" and some other numbers & letters too.  That would explain why a bonus round starts by saying "...Big Cheese ...press spin for your bonus" etc.   Now I wondering what a Pickpocket should say & if I can change it.  Birthing chips???  What can you change with Birthing chips?

The letters and numbers are probably the checksum numbers for that chip.  I can take a video of my Pick Pocket it you like so you can hear it.  Lemme know if you want me to do that.  Birth chips?  I wouldn't mess with it right now until you have problems with the machine (past the sounds).  It comtrols the type of game, demonination, max bet, time, date and all kinds of things like that.

Hay Ashyron, that would be cool- to hear how your Pickpocket sounds.   Also, can you list your chips and their check sum es?  These are mine:  U3,4,5,6 = F00D, F44D, 7977, 5BA5.   Obviously one of more of mine are gonna be incorrect.

OK well I recently got home from town and just got off the phone with Dad so I will go and do it now before I forget.  I'll post a video of some sounds.  Checksums will be posted too for them.

You know  how long I had to stand there and hold the button on the camera in order to get this??   :208- :208-  I almost missed it too.  And to top it all off it was a cheap bonus round too.  I have the machine set for pennies so I don't have to keep loading it with credits so I got 100 pennies.   :96-

Oh yeah, now that's what I'm talking about.   I gotta get mine fixed up.

I figured you were very persistant with the camera OR you have a very generous machine.

It is a little of both.  I have the machine set for highest payout and I think that's around 98% and I had the camera on a tripod with my finger on the button to start as soon as the reels hit.  I had about 12 videos of 2 or 3 seconds long cause it came just that close, LOL :25-

If you watch cfh's and Bettor Slot's videos, you can see that what they do is to just let the video run on a tripod while they play and edit it later to include only the highlights. Of course, that necessitates the need for decent editing software. :79-

Now where is the challenge in that?  :127-

I have another CDS sound question for you experts-  In the Configuration on my Pickpocket there are 6 sound categories:
GENERAL VOL
SECURITY VOL
WIN TUNE VOL
EFFECTS VOL
JACKPOT VOL
MUSIC VOL

Other that the my Security "alarm", everything else seems to be controlled with the General Volume setting.  Is that normal?

Title: Re: CDS Sound Chips
Post by: Buzz on February 06, 2010, 04:40:03 AM
Mark I don't think that's true.  each has it's own setting, in config go to sound, first setting is General Vol,   increase or decrease volume with max or spin buttons, save setting with change button, press bet one to next volume setting and repeat each step untill all six are programed.  :103- :103-

Man, this is more confusing than I would have though.    :37-  No matter what I set the other sound levels to, only the General volume & Security volume seem to do anything.

Just for the fun of it  :71- I made a backup copy of my sound chips and found they listed several sound names in the ASCII section.  Too bad you cant access them individually like in the IGT S+ machines.

Now if I could only figure out how to set the volume   :103-

Perhaps the core chip uses the names as look up references and if you were to reverse some of the names perhaps you would get other sounds ?

Mark  Set General and security at 5 then set Win Tune on 60, then play the machine. let us know if the Win Tune  did not indeed change.

look at the mpu board and see what series of game  you have like 2.05 or 2.12 or 2.19 ect all you have to do is change the sound chips the reason i asked for game series incase you need birth in future  Do not remove game chips or you will need birth chips            Paul

Hay Buzz, I gave that a try- a side from realizing this machine plays really tight, the sound all seams about the same volume still.  Of course when I was setting the different levels it was VERY loud as I cranked everything way up, but no luck.

Paul, Funny you should mention that.  I was reading you can get into the "Init Game" state by causing a hickup.  I was thinking about pulling the chips and forcing the game to let me into that state so I could manipulate the different initiation settings, especially a higher pay schedule.  Do you think that would work.  You wouldn't need the birthing chip or would you?

I was thinking the same thing Jay.  I'll have to score some blank chips and give a try.

That is why i ask what game chips you have the numbers on them if you take the game chips out and reinstall you will cause a system error then you will need birth chips to reinitalize the game The most popular birth chips are 2.05 so you want to make sure you have the birth chips. To get pickpocket sound you need the correct sound chips.
