Title: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: jdkmunch on February 11, 2010, 07:50:19 PM I remember reading a while ago that someone had a way of removing the backing from slot glass. I've done searches but am coming up blank.
I want to remove the backing from a piece of glass and attach my own. It was soaking it in break fluid or something. Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: Buzz on February 11, 2010, 08:44:14 PM Munch not real sure but think it might have been Pwrstroke. Why not go to a glass shop and get a new one cut?

Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: jdkmunch on February 11, 2010, 10:44:59 PM Thanks- based on the comments - I think I'll just try to get a piece cut.
Even if it's kidney shaped I don't think that it will be expensive. Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: tacman on February 11, 2010, 10:49:24 PM Sounds like a monte carlo topper.

They missed another thread here about this teqnique. The practice works when performed correctly --I have the proof and others have seen it. I am not going on a rant or details as it has already been logged here and SOME other threads I had posted in past showed the "Rare" artwork at the time I saved--ie;-wof-etc. I seen the post about hair-dryers etc.---forget it. That may work on some of the older glass but I could care less--All my posts were about newer style glass with thick 3-ply coating. The art/colors will not bleed and the method will not damage the clear lamitate either. I think a few others have tried this --Maybey they have something to say-- :103-. Hopefully besides elmers glue-- Got to be a little more creative than that. I am currently working on a soultion for the adhere. Look at all my posts to this procedure and see what you come up with. Again as in my old post this is not rocket science. I was just sharing how to preserve rare art work on damanged glass NOT how to put it on glass. The process I used removes all glue/residue from the backing when done properly and stages it for a clean re-apply. A hair-dryer will NOT do this and it will only tear the art/graphic up. I know I tried this a long time ago. I will share my adhesion secreat soon on the glass as soon as the patent clears for the substance. Thanks B.
Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: StatFreak on February 13, 2010, 01:51:30 AM Barry, have you talked to a professional glass supplier/installer about how to adhere this type of Mylar? It's a long shot, but they might have some ideas. :79-
Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: reho33 on February 13, 2010, 02:05:18 AM I guess the only reason a person would want to do this is so they could scan the image to file and save it as an archive in case their glass got broken. Then one could be printed on a large format printer and reapplied to the glass.
Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: PWRSTROKE on February 13, 2010, 02:09:30 AM Stat, Quite a while back I was able to have a Glass company help me. They gave me what I needed to adhere with and did a belly for me--This was only used for the thicker, newer style graphics--That being said it is enough said as I could possibly get in a bind at this point. Yes I know it's just application but I have to stop there now on that---- :25-. This will be available soon I would think. This whole procedure MAY be used on older games--I do not konw and have not tried as I think the older graphics/artwork use a much thinner and fragile coating. This procedure should cover most newer s-2000 and other glass. The thing and beauty of it is if it is broken glass with desirable artwork you can salvage it and scrap a non-desirable sheet of glass to use for the host. I heard all of this talk of about having the glass made---forget it--expensive--we are talking belved glass in some cases "green" glass etc. One quote I heard of recently was 75.00 for a 31 inch top glass and they did not even know if it would be exact. My point is if you need need glass--Just buy it on flea bay to get your glass. Nuff Said. B.
Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: PWRSTROKE on February 13, 2010, 02:28:48 AM I guess the only reason a person would want to do this is so they could scan the image to file and save it as an archive in case their glass got broken. Then one could be printed on a large format printer and reapplied to the glass. There are a few reasons for this. Number one it would have to be worth while. Number Two when you are done with my process it is not a fake, duplicate, phoney etc-so no copyright infringnments there, and when done properly you have the authenic piece "restored". I would only use this on rare glass that was broken. Others are welecome to use this process if they cannot find what they are looking for-- At that point it becomes rare to them. Get the picture now--? This is not about scanning images and running down to your local printer. I have pleanty of archives. They cannot replace a ORIGINAL. Nuff said. B. Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: Neonkiss on May 17, 2010, 10:45:43 PM Next questions is, How do you re-apply it?
I have tried this a few times and my results were so so. :60- If you have a trick to it, please post the steps and material used. I have see others that posted to use the window tint adhesive. I have never found such a thing. Window tint has the water based glue applied during the manufacturing process and it is only activated by spraying it with water. Not spraying it with glue. TOP SECERT Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: PWRSTROKE on May 17, 2010, 11:20:27 PM Amazing no one here-Especially all the one's with idle time on their hands have not cracked the adheshion process yet. Trial and error is the process and research. Study laminate overlay to glass process and tinker. Quite sure to those crafty it will be amazing to them. If man made it, and man removed it, man can re-attach it. Good luck with your experiments. I have already told the easiest home method of "removing" the art work --Now the rest is up to all you brillant, Smart folks here. You will find it is not by any means rocket science. As said at least 10 times in the past this applies only to the "thicker" igt laminate/artwork which I experimented prob. 2 years ago and works every time-Have not tried this on the older "frail" graphics. --RJD.
Title: Re: How to Remove Glass Backing Post by: PWRSTROKE on May 17, 2010, 11:43:20 PM Once again, Here is the removed product and what it looks like laid on top of a triple double wild cherry 31 inch top glass- Bet you cannot even see the donar sheet in picture. Was just a point that with a little work rare art work/laminate can be saved. I use orginal glass here and save the rare transfers for later. As of now I need one and will complete it this weekend for one I have been needing for over a year now. Just because the glass is broken -Don't throw it away if it is rare. Put it in a box where no one will get cut and save it for future. B.
