Hi everyone. This site has helped me through a couple issues but I need some additional assistance. I just replaced the battery on my Bally 5500 machine (777 Diamond Line) and did a complete Safe RAM Clear. After I completed this process I received code 23 in the payout display. The machine cannot function with this code displayed and I have not found a way to clear it. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!

Code 23 means that "the coin was not sensed by the drop optics".
Check the path along down there and see if anything is blocking the optics...
It may look like a little black plastic box U-shaped somewhat where
the coin goes through it to "sense" a coin.
There should be a couple of wires going to it....
perhaps a wire may of gotten knocked off it it somehow?

Hurricane  On the front of the MPU board, press the right hand  button ( reset ) next to the red light.  sometimes this works and sometimes we will have to go a little deeper into a problem

I had the same problem on a 6000 not really sure if the 5500 has the same
type board or not, I don't own a 5500 anyway once you rule out the optics
and comparator as the problem you might try this, my fix was on
DS 2 setting switch #8 must be ON, in the off position I got the error 23
but I had to do another ram clear also.

You may be right Tim!  :89-
I only quoted part of the error code...but yes -
On the second bank of dipswitches, the #2 dipswitch should be "ON".
You might need a magnifying glass to see which way the arrow is
pointing on top of the dipswitch box for the "ON' position. :209-
