Title: Sizzling 7 - Broken Payout on 777
Post by: jmkord on February 21, 2010, 03:21:11 AM
Hello All,

I have a Sizzling 7 machine with SP 1271 and SS 3340.  I recently changed the REEL chip from SS 3341 to SS 3340 for a better payout.

Using the SS 3340, when I hit  7 7 7 (all regular red sevens), the machine paid out ONE coin and locked up.  The machine showed [0032] [3364] in the Winner Paid and Credits displays, respectively.  To clear the lockup, I turned the Jackpot Key, which then started the Jackpot Counter to ENDLESSLY count upward.  I let it count upward by at least 10,000, then decided to turn off the power and clear the CMOS.  The highest payout on this machine is only 1,000 coins.

I recently wrote this SS 3340 from a backup; could the backup be flawed?  Wouldn't a mis-programming or error result in a 62?

Anyway, I've hit the 7 7 7 twice with the same results.

Does anyone have any expertise in this problem?  I might just switch back to the SS 3341 in the mean time.

-John

the 0032 3364 was the handpay amount.. or 323,634 credits. Machine was probably set up with dual progressives at some point or another.

How might I be able to change that payout back to 300 coins as the glass shows?

That would depend on which SP chip you have installed,
Newer SP would require a Set 90, for older SP turn off switches 5-8 on the MPU.

It requires a set chip to change. You can scroll through your options to see if it's got dual progressive enabled. Be on page 0  35  1 would be single progressive and 2 would be dual progressive. You can't change this setting without a set chip tho.

The board is actually a 10 MHz board with DIP switches.  Switches 1 - 3 are ON and 4 - 8 are OFF.

At this point, I re-clicked the DIP switches, making sure they were properly seated in position.

I played the game some more and hit 7 7 7 again, and it still wanted to hand-pay 323,634 credits.

In an effort to clear any garbage off of the board and out of the CMOS, I used CLEAR123.  Error codes 66__ and 66_1 were displayed and were reset.  Then, I used SET-15 to double check the bill validator to be enabled and denomination set at 25.  Now, I'm receiving 65_3 and 65_1.  Looks like I need to do more SETting up?  What other SET chips do I need?

Thank you guys for your help -- much better than any manual could ever offer.

If I remember right, at 65-1, you press the white test button for 3 seconds until you hear a ding, then close the door and turn the reset key.
That should get things back to running.

65_1

Bad EEPROM data

Open door and press self test button for 1 to 2 seconds.

65_2

Game type mismatch

Open door and press self test button for 1 to 2 seconds.

65_3

Game options & meters not in most current format

Recover options & meters by using correct set chip.
OR

Turn jackpot reset key to continue power-up procedure.  Game will be upgraded to most current format.  See 65_1 or 65_2.

Good news!

After much tinkering and even trading EPROMS and CMOS chips with other machines, the fix was totally different than what I had figured.  In reading the door tag inside my machine, it reports an error 65_1 as BAD EPROM DATA.  The 65_3 error isn't even listed on the door tag.  I read this to mean that something was either wrong with the EPROM or the data burned onto it.  I understood this as something that needed to be fixed.

As it turns out, reading the replies above from edski and Brianzz, nothing really needed to be physically fixed or eproms reprogrammed.  The 65_x errors were resettable with the white test button, not with the jackpot key in the way that a 61 is resettable.

Once the 65's were cleared, I received a 67 (DATA EPROM CHANGED), which was also cleared.  From this point, the game functioned normally!

Some of you may have read in a separate post about trying to get the coin drop sound to work -- it is now working, too!

I have played the game and have been successful in hitting the 7 7 7, and it, too has been fixed.  It now pays 300 credits as it's supposed to pay.

If I was a tech in a casino and my "work" caused a machine to pay NOT 300 -- but 323,364 coins, I'd probably be looking for a new job.  That goodness this is just my/our hobby!  :)

Thank you all for your help and staying up with me all night while I fixed this beast!
