Title: Neon Nights machine locked up
Post by: Coin Drop on February 21, 2010, 06:46:59 PM
I have the Neon Nights multi game that's displaying a "restart" and a "closure M" at the top two corners of the screen.

The machine was in the process of a long pay out when I opened the door and turned the reset key, hoping to stop the pay out which would have taken several hopper cycles to complete.

I have tried many things short of software or hardware fixes, is there a way that I could reboot or clear the current game play memory without loosing the entire program memory?

If it can't be accomplished on my own, is it possible to send only the pull out box that contains all the Prom chips to a technician for re programing?

I'm trying to avoid moving/taking the entire machine in for servicing.

Pleas help, I miss playing.

You only have 2 choices to clear the machine once its in a payout mode
1 - Use a Key 22 chip and do a complete clear
2 - Feed the coins thru the hopper till the payout is complete.  I know its a pain - been there done that.

If I were you I would feed the machine for a while, get the game up and running again.  In the meantime order a key chip from one of the NLG sponsors to have on hand for the next time

Welcome to NLG Coin Drop. :88-

For the next time, I would suggest changing the hopper limit so that there is no next time. But Pokernut is right, you will have to see this one through or do a complete clear, and it is always a good idea to have a key chip handy to change the settings, so I second his suggestion that you purchase one. :71-

I have the Neon Nights multi game that's displaying a "restart" and a "closure M" at the top two corners of the screen.

The only thing I can add to the discussion here is that the "Restart" message means that you just turned your machine on, and that "Closure M" indicates that the main door was open, but is was just closed.  (That message would change to "Door Open  M" when the main door is open.)

Is the machine still trying to pay out when you close the door?

Also, does your machine have the Neon Nights poker game on it?  I'd love to see a few pictures of the game if it does!  :211-

Thanks guys for all the suggestions,

I tried and succedded in clearing the payout out amount, it went easier and quicker then expected. I attached a coin to a small handle and jingled in and out of the hoppers coin sensor feild.

Unfortanely it's still frozen, it locked up after I turned the reset key with the door open and has not tried to payout since. I was able to set the payout to $50.00

What is a key chip 22 and how is it used?

What are your thoughts on sending the main board in for a diagnostic or componet swap with another mahcine to see it the problem still exist in that machine? I was told that a frozen machine is usually caused by a faulty power supply.

Knagl it does have poker and keno, love to post a pic just as soon as I get it running agian.

Thanks for all the advice!

Although the power supply can cause problems, it is unlikely your issue here.  Can you test the main battery and tell us how many volts it is putting out?  I suspect there may have been memory loss during this process and it may be the result of a failing main battery.  Another thing to check is the main door switch (tells the MPU the door is closed).  These do fail and it could just think the door is open at this point.  In the end here using a Key 22 will clear your machine and get you up and running again...before doing that though...check the battery first as the problem will just repeat.

Is the screenshot you posted the current screen that's displaying on your machine?  If so, it still has money on the credit meter waiting to be paid out.

If not, can you please take a picture of the screen with the door completely closed and post it on here so we can further diagnose the problem?  Thanks in advance!

Better Slots, is the Main battery the yellow disc at the lower left of the circuit board?

The screen shot was taken before I cleared the pay out. I don't think the main door switch is malfunctioning since I was able trick the machine into thinking the door was closed while I manipulated the hoppers coin sensor. I will get a shot of the current screen and one of the I/O screen, some off the values are rapidly changing from 0 to 1's, is that normal?

Where can I get the 22 key chip? I searched some of the sponsor links and could not find one.

Thanks for helping me,

Correct, it has the yellow band around it.

I think the door switches are working fine because when I close the door, the "open door" messages on the monitor goes away.

I checked the battery voltage and it was a constant 2.8 VDC

Here is the new screen after the payout amount was cleared.

This is the picture of the Input/Output screen.

Three of the values  rapidly fluctuate between 1's and 0's, they are (1) Coin Drop, (2) Bill Validator Door, (3) Power Supply Pulse.

They are the ones that look diffrent, like eggs or a solid ovals in the screen shot below.

Knagl here is a picture of the various poker/game options this particular machine has. Wish it was working so I could show you pics of the actual games.

There is also a menu option to clear some values/information or accounting logs of the machine, I can't seem to do it because I get this message "Operation can not be performed, Unless Coin or Bill Drop Door is Open"

Any idea which doors the message is reffering too? I have opened all the doors possible and still get the same message.

Interesting.  I look forward to seeing the games once we get your machine back up and running.

A few things I've noticed from the pictures you posted:

The button that should say "Spin Reels" when the game is idle, is stuck saying "Stop Spin" -- that would normally only be displayed in the middle of a spin (to instantly stop all of the reels and finish the spin).  For kicks, does anything happen when you click that on the screen?

...and on that diagnostic screen, it raises a red flag to me where it shows a "1" next to "Low Battery 1"... but I don't have a Neon Nights machine myself, and I don't know if that's a normal reading.

As far as the coin drop door and the bill validator door... not positive as to what the machine is refering to (my gut says that the "bill drop door" would be the door that leads to the stacker box (cash can)), but it seems odd to me that those are both rapidly changing between 1s and 0s -- I've only seen that behavior on doors that have optical sensors attached to them.

It's possible that your belly door has a switch attached to it -- try opening that door (swinging the belly glass down) to see if that makes a difference.

Hopefully someone with more specific knowledge of your machine can chime in here and get you on track.  I'm guessing, though, that a new battery and a clear/key chip will probably get you back up and running.

The Coin Drop Door refers to the Stand Door.
When the hopper gets full the machine activates a solenoid that diverts coins into the stand instead of the hopper.
I am not sure where the jumper for it is located on that machine
It should be easy to locate it will be a 2 or 3 pin molex connector with jumper wire.
If someone has not removed the part # tag from it it will be easy to find.
Open the Bill Validator door, and try to clear it.
If you still can't clear it, someone has connected the wires together that go to the micro switch which is usually mounted on the BV door.

On S2000, Game King I-Game it is best not to jumper the BV door switch,
The machine most likely will not clear BV tilts properly when you access the cash can.

If all else fails, do a clear on this and reset all of the settings with a key chip.  I guess before you do that you can , close the door for 30 sec, open the door for 10 sec, close the door for 30 sec, open the door for 10 sec, close the door for 30 sec, open the door for 10 sec and check each time to see if it initializes.  This clears stacked codes.  However it seems like a logic error.

Thanks for all the new info.

I'm not positive but I think the Stop Spin bottom is always displayed in the Neon Nights game mode.

I think the 1 would indicate a favorable input from battery number one, I don't believe there is a second battery so the 0 value would make sense in my opinion.
If I'm not mistaken a 1 would equal a input or closed circuit and a zero would represent no input or open circuit, same as In digital code.

I have played with the glass/belly door, no joy there. I will look for jumpers and by-passed micro switches, thanks for the new leads.

If it is like the S2000 there is a second battery but it is used when the machine is off to signal the casino that a door etc was opened while it is off if that is enabled.

Just toss a new battery in it for giggles/grins, give it a Labotomy with a KEY-22 and it will be happy.
It's not all that strange for it to have corrupt RAM info stored in it's innards...
I highly suspect it will behave once it's cleared out....

I used to have Neon Nights before it became Catch A Wave....

I'm not positive but I think the Stop Spin bottom is always displayed in the Neon Nights game mode.

That's not normal.  The second picture I posted is very small, but you can see in Kirk's picture posted right before this post (reply #19, the last one on the first page of this thread) that it should say "Spin Reels" when the game is idle -- it should not say "Stop Spin" unless the game is in the middle of a spin.

Knagl, that just confirms what KirkLasVegas said.  :89-

The best thing to do is to clear the machine completely as it will almost certainly fix all of these issues. In the unlikely event that the clear doesn't eliminate every problem, we will have a simplified path towards solving those that remain.

Thanks, I'm going to order the 22 chip and give it a try.

Is it a complicated process or do you simply insert the chip and power up the machine?

Just wondering if it's something I can do myself.

You guys have been very helpfull, Thank you!

very simple you remove the base chip, insert the 22 all in one chip and replace the board, turn on the machine then follow the on screen prompts.

Thanks,
Wayne

I could give it a try, any particular scene's you would like to see.
I have seen the Lightling Lounge bonus round on Youtube , it should still be there.

Anybody know of other interactive and fun Game King games?

I watched a demenstration of Little Green Men, it looked fun. You could choose between three diffrent people sitting on a park bench that gets abducted by a UFO.
A newspaper headline would pop up after the abduction, I don't remember how the rest of the game goes.

Below is a link to the Lighting Lounge video, it's been on Youtube for sometime now.

I will try and record sample's of the other bonus rounds and each game and see if I can post them.
I think the hamburger guy is the most amusing because he talks alot while making the burgers. He say things like "red ripe tomato, mmmm fresh onions, gotta have the cheese" etc... And he talks in a funny accent. He's the most animated character in the game.

I will let ya know if I get something on Y.T, mean time check out this link.

Four card keno is available on the game king, although I don't know what game set has it. (You'll have to ask Buzz what chipset he has in his GK.) The layout is the same, but the Neon Nights graphics are much cooler. :89-
