Here's my beef.  I am a newer contributing member.  I read and reply to some post here.  I see what deal's I can find in the classifieds.  Mostly I buy needed parts for my machines that are for my private game room.  But it seems someone doesn't like that fact that I had a little bit of karma building up .  Its been dropping off about 2 a day for weeks now and I was hoping it would stop.  But it is almost to a negative point.  
       My guess is either I out bid someone here on an item on Ebay and they are pissed off at me, or they are jealous for some other reason.  Other users I asked about this said to ignore it, but no, can't do that.   So I ask who ever has the grudge to fess up in private email and maybe I owe you an apology or something.

But I would also like to ask, who ever reads this to take a second or two and hit me a positive karma to offset the negatives I have been getting.  It would be much appreciated. As I write this, I have 6 karma, please help by hitting positive before you leave this post.

Karma is a meaningless number and you "should" ignore it. I too am getting 2 negative karma's a day from somebody, but I could care less.

This is an internet forum where people can and will do what ever they want and you have no control over it.

Karma, hmmm, this has been a topic here in the past also.  I wonder if there's a way to make a change to only allow positive Karma.  In any case, K+ for offering to apologize to whoever you P'd O.

This was happing to me too.  I have become like MrBellMan - and just ignore it now.

I gave everyone in this poat a positive karma too. They took my few down to -3. And I have been here 2 months!

..... I gotta say thank you, to all of you.  I was hoping I might get a few of my positives back, but looks like there are some
really good people out there.  The Karma to me is kinda like the feedback on Ebay,  if someone has a problem that deserves
negative feedback then fine, one man one vote.
But for one person to push there way in and ruin an otherwise good person's reputation , that doesn't seem right.
Most of us do look at the karma someone has, I know I do .

I couldn't agree with you more Wayne.  If there was anything I would change about this site, it would be exactly that function and nothing else.

As most have already stated, there are some folks that would rather give neg karma than adddress an isssue, I just don't worry about it. I gave you a + though...

I would not look at Karma as the equivelent of ebay feedback........

We had one whinner that PM'ed the hell out of all the moderators, administrators and staff about his rapidly dropping karma.... to shut him up one of the admins edited the database, added 800 Karma points.
A month later someone bought something from him ..... and based his purchase decison on Karma points ..... and ended up getting screwed meanwhile the guy that got the points was never heard from again.

We get more grief from Karma...... we have had poeple create shill accounts so that they could log in under other alias's and give themselves Karma. We now have Karma limited to 1 unit per day, so the reward does not equal the effort of setting up shills.

Its just a meaningless number......

Hay not sure what the karma is for but i gave everyone a K+ that posted just because I'm still up & i like this site so much. :89-

I agree I could care less about my karma points going south every day! Guess I have some member that doesn't like me or maybe something that I might have said!  Oh well!  I believe its function isn't being used for what it supposed to be!  You reward someone who helps you solve a problem or leads you to someone who can with a thank you!   We are all adults!!  Just my two cents worth!  Freebird4

Its like sunshine on a gloomy day for many .. A upbeat boost for others .. a DEVELISH use by less than a hand full to ruin someones day .when they took the time to help out a member or members in there post .

I believe that we are all here to help each other out.
Either by having knowledge or a game, machine, parts, etc.

I know I get at least one or 2 PM asking for help every week. they get it without any obligation on their part.

I agree... help when you can...look for nothing in return but the same when you need help. More than one sore looser here..I lost 5 karma in the past hour. This thread pissed a few more off.

Well,  I have been watching this thread from it's conception.  I also disagree on the neg. Karma bashing.  It does not bother me that much anymore except when I post to help others and I know I am correct on my posts and get that-That's the aggrevating part.  There will always be jerks out there no matter what you do in life that have nothing better to do than try and make misery.   I have been a member here for a good while on the old board and here.  All moderators and other here would tell you I bitched about it quite a bit and even pissed some folks off in the process.  I was always told every time and over time not to worry about it.  That's what I eventually did and now for the most part it does not bother me.  For the record as most here know I do not condone the negative karma thing and do not use it.  It's better to handle your problems "via" other what ever means that may be in my opinion.  I will get "Hit" for just this one lone post--Oh well,  Does not change anything as far as people goes in my opinion.   Just a few cents on parts,   Barry.

I'm not sure who your suspect was, but it's no longer possible to give negative karma, so your total has nowhere to go but up!  Go ahead -- try to give me a negative (and then give me a positive for telling you this!  :96-).

I'll pass on trying negative thing, but that's a good thing to hear if what you say is true.  I hope my post had a little something to do with it.

Sorry for grandstanding, I have no dog in this fight but I wanted to type a position:

     I guess that Karma was originally supposed to be for members who had real value in their posts. Like when you render technical advice, have a unique position on an idea, etc. Even when you make someone laugh, there is some sociallly soothing value to that earning Karma. Now having said that, someone can make 1000 posts of nonsense and earn no Karma, or like others here who don't post that often, may post 100 times and have 99 karma for the value in each post.The point is that Karma should still go either way if we are going to be intellectually honest. But herein lies the rub: it can be used as a weapon to punish a member when you feel threatened or attacked. It should only be used if that member takes away value from the group, etc. But I guess since there is no proper way to control that, it should stay the way it is now. But Karma should still reflect how a member has contributed to the group as a whole because the people who render real solutions and assistance should be recognized for that. There really is no free ride here.

Karma numbers are good , but I beleive if someone truly earns a respect or thanks for something they have done for you or for the good of all...just type a few lines saying thanks for what they did so all know what it was :131-. Just because their karma number went up a point does not reflect what they may have contributed and tells me nothing about who they are or how they help or contribute to others.

And give K+ but we all know why :89-

The karma thing has been a issue here for a LONG time.  I do not nor have gave negative karma in the past so it suits me just fine as well. And I have been a member longer than a lot on here including lots of gold,wanta be vendors etc. I never made gold because I voiced my opinion and spoke up in the past--- :25-.  I have been warned,threatened and you name it by the NLG police and others in the past---- :25-.  I try to "play nice in the sand-box" these days.  I have a lot to crow about here but I keep it to myself and others as of late.   I like the games and most all the good people here.  That is why I continue to return to this great site.  As far as contributions,  I have made my fair share recent and lots in past before most of you even barking about it were ever members here.  I have paid my dues.  Thanks B.

I had to test out your theory, I went back to a post about giving away a free nights stay at Casino Windsor and tried to give negative to the guy who was gonna get the hotel stay for just 2 bucks.  Well I hit the negative button and to my surprise this is what happened
