Title: Gamemaker- Hopper problem
Post by: Minka on February 23, 2010, 08:05:50 PM
Hello ,

Had a gamemaker for a few years, trouble free. Recently a coin payout was required and got as far as 516 of 800 coins. Had to refill hopper but after countdown payout does not resume. Getting hopper empty message. Test button works, plate turns and coins flow out with ease.
Diagnostic talks of switch hopper empty.
Hopper test quits stating  hopper empty.

Need some help in convincing my game that its full so payout resumes.

Thanks,
 Minka

I'm not a GameMaker expert, but I guess the first thing I'd try is powering the machine off, sliding the hopper part of the way out, and then firmly sliding it back in to see if it perhaps just jiggled itself slightly loose from one of its connections.  Then power on and see if it resumes.

Another thing is to see if there's a ground pin that sticks into the hopper bowl that lets the machine know that the hopper is full.  If there is a pin, try making sure that the coins in the bowl are high enough to touch that pin and complete the circuit.  I know on an IGT machine that simply activates the divertor to send extra coins to the drop bucket in the stand, but on the Bally GameMaker perhaps it tells the machine that there are in fact coins in the hopper?

That suggestion is certainly worth a try, but I have never had to do it on my GM. The hopper empty condition usually resolves by simply closing the door, just as it does on an S+. The condition should only recur after the hopper runs and no new coins are paid out.

If re-seating the hopper doesn't work, and since the door switch seems to be okay ("...after countdown..."), I'd check the hopper harness connections and the hopper wires next.

Check to see that the optic field is being broken by the coin passing through.  I have had some machines that the coin knife didn't lift the coin high enough for the size of coin. I use a small coin knife in this case.

Thanks,

I believe that I have seen this before where it traced to the MPU.  As I recall, U-18 was the culprit.  If you have a spare board, you may want to swap them to eliminate this as potentially being the problem.
