Title: 5 times play slant top - how do I get it to hold credits?
Post by: eph78 on February 25, 2010, 07:49:18 PM
I have a 5 times play slant top and it rejects coins after the 3 are inserted. If you win, it will put them in the credits but not by manually dropping coins in.

Any help would be great, I'm new to this.

Welcome to :nlg-, ehp78!

Normal behavior of an IGT S+ is to reject coins once the maximum number (for a max bet spin) have been inserted.  Most of the program chips are configured that way, as most of the S+ machines in casinos were configured that way.

It is possible, however, to buy a program chip that supports "Montana Credits".  In laymans terms, Montana Credits are exactly what you want to do -- that setting allows you to insert coins above and beyond the maximum number required for a max bet spin, with additional coins inserted going to the credit meter.

Before you go and purchase a new chip for your game, it'd be good to double check that your game doesn't already have that functionality and it's just not enabled (not likely, but possible).  You'll need to determine what SP chip is in your machine.  With the machine's power off, remove the MPU board.  It's a board in a silver tray in the lower-left side of the cabinet.  Using the handle that sticks out to the right of the tray, slide the tray all the way towards the front of the machine, then rotate the whole thing slightly more than 90 degrees counter-clockwise (the "handle" will go into the open area created by the odd shape of the hopper bowl).  At this point, you should be able to lift the tray straight out of the machine.

On the tray in there will be a number of chips -- the ones we're interested in are the chips with labels starting with "SS" and "SP".  The SS chip will indicate what the payout percentage of your game is, and the SP chip will tell us if it supports Montana Credits or not.

It's also possible to determine the SS and SP chip numbers without removing the tray, if you prefer.  With the power on, open the main door and press the white self-test button (next to the power switch) nine (or ten) times -- that should bring you to a display where two sets of numbers will appear in the Credits and Winner Paid displays.  Those numbers contain the info we need.

Please reply back here with that info and we can go from there.

The CMOS chip isn't one that we care about -- it's the GAME PROM that we need to know about (although the REEL PROM would tell us the paytable of the machine), but the info you provided seems like it was actual information about the chip, and not the information on it.  27C512 is the type of chip.  Was there a label at all on the chip that had "SP0000" where the 0's would be a three or four digit number?  If the chip did not have a label on it, then we can skip looking at the chip -- the information wouldn't be printed directly on the chip, but rather on a white label on the chip.

If not, the alternate method (using the self test button) I explained in my earlier reply should generate the information we need.  That method is explained with pictures here: http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/SPSS.htm
