Title: Sound Issue
Post by: cowboygames on March 03, 2010, 01:37:51 PM
Here's another on that Super Spin. I've noticed when the game is playing I will occassionally get a burst of static from the top right speaker. Other times I will get reel stop sound from one speeaker before any reels stop and the other when they stop like one is getting sound signal from mpu before the other. Finally(and this only happened once), I had a high pitched warbling noise coming from both speakers that didn't stop till Iafter the spin was completed and I respun the reels. Really weird kind of stuff. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on this

Could be a number of things but I'd start with the speaker wires and connections first.
try to concentrate on just those wires alone and follow them
from the top box board down to the backplane board.
It takes some real sleuthing to follow wires that all tied up together
but with a good flashlight and digging around noting the wire colors - you'll do fine.
The topbox speakers in S2000's have been known to do weird stuff...
Are there any gadgets attached to the lines?
Sometimes guys solder in resistor and pots to try an silence the annoying humming.
Sometimes they don't have the proper resistors with the correct values and
end up hacking up speakers to sound even worse than before they touched it.
Even the connectors attached directly upon the speakers themselves could be loose too.
like I said - it will take some sleuthing  :209- :186- to get to the bottom of this!

Thanks for the ideas! :3- Unfortunately I've been back and forth through the wiring and even pulled the amp board to check solder connections and such. Replaced all speakers too. Game is straight from casino so I pulled all the player tracking wiring out (holy crap there's a lot of it)and that didn't change anything. Speaking of that, if anyone wants the dispays, wiring, power supplies and one card reader they can have them for the cost of shipping. Just shoot me a pm. First come first serve. I'll keep digging on the sound thing, something will present itself. Thanks again!

I had a super spin and from time to time it'd make really strange noises, especially if you don't give it a second between spins. Almost like the sound SIMM gets confused.

That's a good point. Maybe it's got a slow processor. Game seems to take a long time to start when I turn it on too, Maybe need to do ram clear. Same thing with my Cleopatra as far as start up. Takes like two minutes then says waiting for netplex devices which I assume is all the player tracking crap I unplugged

Save the player tracking stuff for me on your next visit?
The noise sounds like corrupt data reaching the sound SIMM. Try pulling the simm and cleaning the "fingers" with a erasure, then wipe with alcohol and reinsert it in the socket a few times.
Quite often the SIMM has a LOT of sounds in it not used in that game.If it gets the sound data wrong it might make some strange sounds :)

This sounds like a flaky Muti media Lite board.  If you have a spare try that first.

The reason it takes so long to start up is the MMlite boards. Takes forever for a game to boot with an MM board installed.
